The public prefers fun Katy over ballad Katy, that's plain as day. My point is why is she called a One trick pony when she has a more diverse set of singles than other pop girls (maybe besides Rihanna).

She is the safest of them all. E.T. is the only single she has that's not basic (I hate this word but I don't know which other to use, and basic does not necessairly mean bad)

E.T. is one of her biggest songs and Dark Horse is looking to also be one. Firework and Roar are also two of her biggest songs. Then we have Hot N cold with Teenage dream and just ask yourself if they sound the same.

Are The Beatles considered legends? Yes. Did they ever release music the public thought was bad or terrible? No. Stop using that as a way to demean Katy when in reality it's just an excuse because her songs flopped.

And before you completely try and derail this, I'm not comparing Katy to the Beatles I'm saying they were not "risky" like people on this site are so damn obsessed with and they are still legends none-the-less so give that crap up.

There is no diversity. Teenage Dream is an amazing song, Firework also and E.T. is my top three favourite songs EVER. I like some of her music. But she has 0 diversity. Atleast OOTB had some. TD and Prism... not at all.

If we were having discussions like this at the point Madonna was at in her first 2 albums, you all would be saying "she's too safe", "she has no talent", "she can't sing" and "Cyndi Lauper will outlast her". Madonna just kept proving everyone wrong and getting bigger and bigger while Cyndi just continued her self destruction by trying to take control of her career and believing too much in her art. Let us re-educate ourselves, children.

As much as I love Katy, she has taken relatively few risks artistically, sonically, creatively or anything-ly when compared to Gaga. She has played it far safer in every regard, which is why she is doing so well now--stick to what you know, it will get you where you need to be. There is absolutely no reason why Katy shouldn't outlast GaGa.

Now whether or not that has happened or will happen? Only time will tell.

Have you all heard Katy's single that's running concurrent to the urban-influenced Dark Horse? It's a duet with John Mayer entitled "Who You Love", and it single handedly disproves any notion that Katy can only make radio-safe pop. When she's done being a major pop girl, she will be able to fall back on music like this, Spiritual, Choose Your Battles, Brick by Brick, etc.

Can you picture any other main pop girl songs like that?

Has she released mostly safe singles? Yes. Thank goodness for that, it's given her a much better track record than her peers. Only two flop singles from three albums + a re-release? Yes please!

I think they both will continue to do well throughout their careers. They are still young in the industry tbh...altho both have huge songs they have to show their legs...both are doing amazing. Roar and Applause
