Rihanna's Midnight City
Opening this set is "Diamonds", by Rihanna, at #35. It's the fifth consecutive year that she has a song in a year-end chart as a main artist. The song is one of my favorites at the moment. It's her second song to appear this year. I need to confess that I finally got addicted to "We Found Love" (featuring Calvin Harris). The song is amazing, I don't know why I have not fallen in love before. Anyway, it's her last appearance this year, but expect her to appear again next year with "Stay", a collaboration with Mikky Ekko. Or even with "Diamonds", who knows?
No Doubt's comeback single, "Settle Down", is at #34. It's their only appearance here. It's a nice song, but I expected a better song. Veteran brazilian singer, Rita Lee, appears at #33 with her latest single, "Reza" (translation: "Pray"). Brazilian songs on my year-end charts are becoming rare 'cause I do not like popular songs and I do not have updates from the non-mainstream bands that I like. Just so you know, in 2010 I made a special year-end chart with 30 brazilian songs (Here's a tip: If you did not like brazilian songs like "Ai Se Eu Te Pego", by Michel Teló, or "Balada", by Gusttavo Lima, you should listen to the song).
King of folk, Bob Dylan, is at #32 with "Duquesne Whistle". It's from his thirty-fifth studio album, "Tempest", released on September 10, 2012. A great song, as he always do. The song was #1 for nine consecutive weeks on my personal Rock Songs chart. Closing this set is "Midnight City", by M83. The song can be defined, like my friend said, as "futurist and present, classic and modern, old and gold..."
