A. Are you suggesting they're more intelligent than us? plus predators are always more intelligent than prey. That's how evolution works.

Well now I did read it, dear. And I still abide by my argument. I don't think you can call the creature you're postulating to exist at the bottom of the ocean a "mermaid." Essentially you're arguing that it's possible that X creature lives at the bottom of the ocean. There are lots of things that could be down there, but I am of the opinion that a humanoid that followed (or came from) a similar evolutionary genesis as a human would not have been able to adapt sufficiently to survive.
