Because people want to think they're always right and make people disregard someone's personal experiences because they don't believe it, so it must be fake and all a lie.
When you're happy with your life and well adjusted you don't feel the desire to rationalize your shortcomings or the unfairness of life with otherworldly explanations. I've seen the same rhetoric being stated here said by family and I've seen how unhappy they've been. It's very simple.
