		*6 0* *thinking out loud* - ed sheeran Single peak: 3 weeks: 25 (11 in top ten) 2014: Ghost - Ella Henderson This has always been a fan favourite from X for everyone, except for me. It's good but it just didn't pop out to me like how it did for everyone else. But it's got its beauty, and that simplicity really took its time to show for me. Oh and that video, stunning!
		*5 9* *champagne kisses* - jessie ware Tough Love peak: 4 weeks: 10 (6 in top ten) 2014: Budapest - George Ezra Such flawlessness. Jessie's voice is sweet and light in the chorus and I love how the song crescendos till the final chorus is a cacophony of slay.
		*5 8* *the hanging tree (feat. jennifer lawrence)* - james newton howard The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (Original Motion Picture Score) peak: 6 weeks: 11 (4 in top ten) 2014: Automatic - Miranda Lambert Who thought this would turn into a hit? Who thought J Law could kind of sing? I love how they turned this little rhyme from the series of books that I loved, into this rallying cry and swept the whole world off its feet.
		*5 7* *sparks* - hilary duff Breathe In. Breathe Out. peak: 3 weeks: 12 (6 in top ten) 2014: Hunger of the Pines - Alt-J All About It was a pretty irresistible tune, but Hilary made sure that her comeback album was correctly led by what sounded like a surefire hit (it didn't). Such a vibrant, playful song, so why didn't it smash? That video.
		*5 6* *flesh without blood* - grimes Art Angels peak: 6 weeks: 4 (so far) 2014:Sweater Weather - The Neighbourhood This song is probably one of the more milder offerings from Art Angels. It's not so outwardly pop but it's not insane. So I guess it's the perfect lead single. Well, it got me interested enough to listen to the whole album. And when that happens, you know this song did it's job damn well.
		*5 5* *moments* - tove lo Queen of the Clouds peak: 2 weeks: 5 (so far) 2014: Chandelier - Sia Always has been a frontrunner as a single. Despite the weird line "charming as ****" and her apparently singing about making a man ejaculate, this song is captivating. That thunderous drums in the chorus is to die for.
		*5 4* *smoke break* - carrie underwood Storyteller peak: 4 weeks: 11 (4 in top ten) 2014: Girls - The 1975 Carrie Underwood can never release a bad lead single. This song has got everything about Carrie that we love and it sure does drive its message home. None can't help attempting to belt in unison with Carrie on this.
		*5 3* *she used to be mine* - sara bareilles What's Inside: Songs From Waitress peak: 3 weeks: 9 (so far) 2014: Boom Clap - Charli XCX Ballad Sara is the best Sara. This song probably reminds me most of Gravity, mostly the way the song builds up and peaks at the end. It also kind of reminds me of Girl Crush in that to the uneducated, it sounds like she's lesbo. But no it's such a charming ode to your old self.
		*5 2* *work song* - hozier Hozier peak: 16 weeks: 10 2014: XO - Beyoncé One of the best songs on the album got paid dust when it deserved to smash like TMTC. Perhaps cuz it was released too long after it, and the video was such a borefest, after the gripping pro-LGBT video of the lead single and the Natalie Dormer-led Someone New. This deserved to smash ugh.
		*5 1* *afterlife* - ingrid michaelson Lights Out peak: 9 weeks: 16 (1 in top ten) 2014: All the Rage Back Home - Interpol This song never fails to rouse my emotions. I don't think I've said it yet, but I love your graphics pictures and layout, everything's very sleek, and also feels very cohesive and clean. Probably my favorite presentation.

The thing is, I both agree AND disagree. "Flesh Without Blood" was one of the poppiest songs I listened to all year. And I listened to a surprising amount of pop. That's also a good thing when talking about FWB, because that song embraces pop better than any other song embraced pop this year. It also did a lot more than embrace pop, so it has that in its favor, as well.

And oh my god, Sara Bareilles. I keep forgetting about you when I think about Red Crushes, but I really, REALLY shouldn't.
