Nice top of artists, maybe it was not the best year for most of them (specially Matchbox Twenty, Olly Murs and Madonna) in my opinion, but I like at least one song by each of them
I didn't quite agree when they released this song as a single but I've learnt to appreciate it with time. It has this relaxing vibe and a very catchy chorus, definitely the perfect summer song. I'm so glad it was a success, they really needed it.
Gavin DeGraw "Sweeter"
Gavin and The Script keep fighting for the fastest burner record. All their songs sound awesome at first listen but I always end up feeling annoyed by them in less than a month. Sweeter is definitely an improvement over the cheesy "Not Over You" though.
Beyoncé "I Was Here"
One of my favorite songs from "4" which is one of my favorite Beyoncé albums in spite of the heavy criticism that it got. This live performance was just a showdown of Beyoncé's powerful vocals and stage presence. I'm glad it was released.
Mariana's Trench "Fallout"
One of my favorite canadian artists of the last few years. Despite being a little repetitive, this song is very emotional. The vocalist has a signature voice tone and writing style that make this band stand out from the rest. Their album is really good aswell.
Taylor Swift "Ours"
I'm still sore because Taylor's label chose to release this bonus track instead of "Enchanted" and "Haunted" which shall remain as her hidden gems. The music video is really cute and ironically it could be the best one she released in the whole era.
The Script feat. will.I.Am "Hall Of Fame"
The fact that this song managed to go top 100 is just a fluke. I did like it for a few weeks but I'm so annoyed by it now. Maybe it will grow back on me but I'm not sure. The verses are really corny "You could be the king kong banging in your chest", really?
No Doubt feat. Busy Signal & Major Lazer "Push And Shove"
I didn't even know this song's release had been called off. It makes no sense because it's really fresh. No Doubt seems to be on a very dry spell this year. Their album flopped, their singles flopped, their videos were paid dust, I hope they do well selling tickets..
Madonna "Turn Up The Radio"
First of three appearance by the Queen Of Pop. This song was very underrated. It's one of her weakest singles ever and it's still better than most of the dance tracks I heard this year. We know she's never been a vocalist, but she's still outstanding anywhere else.
Matchbox Twenty "Overjoyed"
This song is a very steady grower. I didn't like it at first but now I'm really digging it. It's not exactly a power ballad but it's still very emotional. One of those songs that reminds you of a very special ocation.
Olly Murs feat. Flo Rida "Troublemaker"
First of three appearances by Mr. Murs. Olly is quite the character, he's always very spontaneous and creative and was able to turn this generic song into something interesting. I don't get why it keeps being compared to Misery... gross.
