Had she done snl, Ellen, Oprah next chapter, Jimmy Fallon/Kimbell, an award show etc she'd probably reach 180k to 200k but these figures are good too. She might come for 400k total US sales if she does some promo
those are AMAZING numbers, I mean this woman is getting a 100 000 debut after what 7 years since her last album, and not to mention that one flopped, just like two others before it... like this woman literally didn't have a hit in the last 15 years yet snatched 100 k debut(with minimum promo!) BRAVO MISS JANET!
Exactly, the fact that she hasn't released an album in that long should've guaranteed a bigger debut since people were craving new music from her.
Outside the fanbase, it is not known she had released an album. These #s shows she has still a core base tbh I mean she outsold Mariah and her contemporaries, and almost selling the same #s with Madonna, WITHOUT the intense promo
When was her last Top 40 hit? Feedback at #19? These #s are amazing!
I mean, for a comeback album those numbers are really low I expected her to do more
Wait what?
Mariah Carey
Shakira
Jennifer Lopez
ciara
Kelly clarkson
Non of these could debut with these numbers and all of there are seen way more relevant (no shade to Queen Janet) then her and they have all had hits this decade!
Janet's really come through even I didn't think she would do more then 50,000 tbh but she's doing it and the fact she's doing it with zero promotion makes it even more greater. I'm so proud she's having a comeback
I mean, for a comeback album those numbers are really low I expected her to do more
Really with no promo and no hit single and being gone since forever and with the last album from 7 years ago only selling 180k in its first week. Record sales have dropped far lower. Even current artists are pressed to get a 100k+ first week in sales. Madonna and Mariah can't do it and they are considered to be more relevant than Janet and broke the bank on promotional spending. Even with Madonna's 200 million dollar tour bundling she could barely do 100k.
It's not Janet's fault that she opening with six-figure numbers with very little to no promotion at all (and on her own label at that). No pop-driven singles, no wasting space on major awards shows, no viral videos - just the minimalistic approach, which, for her, is the best "promotion" yet.
