Anywhoooore ,Beautiful Stranger is randomly slaying me ,especially while at the gym . Have been listening to it time and time again for the last couple of days .

Borrowed Time remains the best song on RH as of now IMO. Beautiful Scars also slays hard and I've found out I'm still pretty much in love with this album

I was thinking about this album and its title track just the other day.

You know, so many people have said (and still say) that Madonna's career rests on shock value and scandal. It's not true. Her career rests on brilliant, inspired music.

If someone waves their arms in the air and shouts at the top of their lungs and tries to scandalize and shock everybody, an audience might walk up to them for a moment. But if that person can't back up their tactics, and if the attempts to shock are hollow, the audience will get it and they'll all go back to what they were doing.

Madonna made a video in which she dances in a field of burning crosses, experiences stigmata, and makes out with a black religious icon come to life. Pepsi cancelled a multi-million dollar recording contract as a result. In the ensuing hubbub, an audience walks up to Madonna and what does she have to show for it? One of the greatest songs - and albums - in pop music history.

People CAN sense the depth and soul and heart in an artist's work. It's why Madonna endured for so long. Not titillation.

It is weird how she's been classified as a "controversial" singer - like she just does performance videos and challenges norms in her music videos.

Her music itself is generally safe, lyrically. Not always though, nor should it be.

But she has just become so much bigger than her music. A blessing & curse.

No,it's not. I mean it !

One thing is for sure :no other pop star (much less females ) has ever gone as far as she had ,especially with Like a Prayer and Erotica (with Justify My Love in between the eras).

Obviously I wasn't even alive when the Erotica era happened, but considering what she did then is still shocking now, it's absolutely mind-boggling how she managed to have such an extreme era at such a repressed, and oppressed, time - and then managed to come back from it, change everything about her image and sound, and continue to be immensely successful.

How the hell did she do it??

I was just saying this to Colin before, Confessions is a really marvellous & succint piece of work. But the extras... I'm not shy about the fact that Fighting Spirit is one of her worst 2005-present tracks
Probably because it stems so hard to my original disappointment at finding the track, I was in full blown confessions stan mode trying to learn everything about the era and Madonna herself, am thrilled that there are some other songs that I could associate with the album, I loved History.
"Cool, fighting spirit, an inspirational disco jam about getting out of a tough spot, let's hear it"
You can't just add "of love" to the end of something and call it a lyric Madonna it doesn't ****ing work and the song is trash.
At least super pop is obviously a very playful tongue in cheek mission statement, the original Bitch I'm Madonna.
But she was actually fxking serious with fighting spirit and I hate it.

Beautiful Scars is great but I prefer the demo version. Borrowed Time is also great. Rebel Heart has so many highlights, there is literally something for everyone. The album is definitely reminiscent of a greatest hits album in regards to its cohesion however, the vast majority of the album's tracks are solid efforts and even some of the worst songs like Holy Water and S.E.X. are fairly palatable.
