I was mostly joking, so calm down.
If I was Oliver, I would give Connor an out. I wouldn't want someone to stay with me out of guilt, and Connor shouldn't have to feel guilty if he doesn't think he cqn handle it. I mean, they're both still so young. There's guys who are HIV+ that would be able to identify with Oliver better anyways.
I'm actually satisfied that Oliver is the one that has HIV because it's kind of like PSA.
Like Oliver said 1 in 5 gay men have HIV and don't even know it. You can't have such a ground breaking gay couple on NETWORK primetime tv breaking the barriers that they are and not be talk about responsible sex. Getting tested, practicing safe sex, being accountable to informing your partners about your sexual history. Some may say it's unfair that Connor the "man ****" didn't get it but you know what.. bad things can happen to good people (**** happens). In our case it was Oliver who is the more responsible of the two who got the disease. The show is just being real.
I totally get why they did that to Connor and Oliver, but it just seems a bit lazy. Like, they're gay so naturally AIDS has to become a plot point. And instead of ****-shaming, they go for the surprise "it could happen to anyone" angle.
Obviously to us as gay viewers, we're more likely to have seen other gay characters with similar story lines so it seems cliche...but it also seems somewhat irresponsible for them to chuck AIDS at the gay couple that has been so refreshingly modern and normal thus far.
I get that it's still prevalent and it's important for people to not forget the serious risk, but do gay characters always have to either deal with bullying or AIDS? Can we maybe not help the straight population move on from viewing us like that? Especially in this show. It's not about the dynamics of the gay community or even love and relationships in general. It's a 'who done it?' murder mystery legal drama.
It wouldn't have been faultless because of the bi-shaming, but a much better storyline would have been that Michaela was actually infected because her fiance had been ****ing around on the side. Now THAT would have been brave.
So I was OBSESSED with this show last year, but this year, I discovered "Game of Thrones" and "House of Cards" and it just made me realize how mediocre this show is, heading towards bad. The season finale was kind of weak TBH and the acting is just all around, simply decent.
Viola SAVES this show. She is such a tour de' force that she brings depth and dimension to this campy show.
With that being said, Rebecca was probably one of the most annoying characters I have ever seen on TV, and Wes is equally as annoying. I am glad

A lot of young ppl watch the show & think they're invincible.
I'm sad for Oliver... but happy the message is brought to primetime!
