Where does it say that they peaked at #2 in the hot100. Or even better, where on that site says the word "Hot100".
Green Day's first single to debut in the hot100 is "American Idiot". Sure they had some other major airplay hits before, but by those times no song without a cd single out could make it in the chart.
The same thing happened to No Doubt's "Don't Speak" wich was a huge airplay single but didin't even debut in the hot100. Nowadays, that soung would've easily peak in the top5.
