It's self-requested.
And Sia is used up now, her songs aren't that good any more.

I just want her to have an 'iconic' (god I hate that word) era.
Be unique, creative, something ONLY she could do.
And not in the way 'well RB and WMN? are Carribean influenced and hits #OnlyRihanna' but REALLY something that just screams Rihanna.

Is she still in LA? She's been so damn quiet lately. I swear we better be getting another Rated R type of masterpiece. Where the look, music, and promo is cohesive.

True, and imo as of now the only way for that to happen would be a reggae inspired album. I feel like everything else has already been done or is being imitated by others.
She's at the point where she can take a career risk and give us something unexpected/ different. People especially the media pay attention to her now more than ever.

Rihanna is destined to have her "artistic breakthrough" era (i.e. Ray of Light, BEYONCE, The Velvet Rope) later on in her career when hits & #1 songs no longer mean anything to her or the the fans.
So far I'd say...
Good Girl Gone Bad - Breakthrough Era
Rated R - Dark Era
Loud - Commercial Era
Talk that Talk - "Urban" Era
Unapologetic - Icon Era

I agree, this would make sense.
Rihanna is POP, and she has the monopoly on Carribean music (Reggae/Dancehall/Soca).
If she is somehow able to mix those genres into a commercially successful album she is cemented.

Exactly. She used to be the raunchy/urban pop girl (at least in the past few years) but now her peers have tried to copy that. She needs to move on completely and leave them in the dust. An album with reggae/soca influences is something only she could do authentically. If she wrote lyrics that were personal and beautiful, she could get critical acclaim and respect from casual music fans. The juxtaposition would be beautiful and kinda true to the music's roots.
She would also gain a massive audience (and possibly album sales) from Island immigrants. I'm not even joking, if she made great music and had great performing skills they would claim her in a heartbeat. I'm here for a bright album with personal and dark themes. Like I said a few weeks ago, I would love for this album to be about overcoming demons and letting the light in.

But I'd rather that breakthrough happen now than later. To me she's in a weird space in her career where she has received great amount of success under 10 years. Its almost like she's at a cross roads to stay labeled as a "Pop Star" or be so much more.
- People have become intrigued by Rihanna: She's getting meaningful awards, she's selling products thru social media, she gained a whole new audience thanks to Stay. She not "Americas sweetheart" but I guarantee people are waiting to see her next move with this album.

I'm really into this idea.
I hope for a more bright album too, but one where she is more hands on, unlike LOUD. I would love for her to write about her youth and time in Barbados, her father, her lifestyle, her family. Just her memories written down on paper before she made it in the USA. Or what kind of struggles she goes through in life, what makes her angry? What moves her? Just the truth really.
I hope she's going to start looking at her albums as projects, rather than collections.

And this too, she's not in a bad place (at all) but she's in a place where it's kind of, we've seen this side of Rih, and now it's enough.
It's just enough, the wolrd is ready for a 'new' Rih, a new side of her.

Same sis
Her childhood seems so interesting and kind of dramatic. She has plenty to write about but she chooses not to. Hopefully this time off will allow her to reflect and really be involved in the music. Seeing so many photos of her in the studio has gotten me excited. I think she'll be writing more this time- her influence on UA is obvious and she still had a limited amount of time. With this Rated R-sized break she could do a LOT.
