So I want to ask some of you out of curiosity. How did you get into kpop in the first place?
For me I was always open to music of other langauges especially korean since I had family friends who were korean.
My late friend was a wonder girls stan who helped me out since I was looking for something new music wise.
Then I came to this thread and you guys really helped a bunch and really solidified my love for the genre.
Now you've planted the idea, a hybrid album featuring say 3 Korean, 3 Japanese, 3 English and 3 Chinese songs would be incredible!
Yaasss slay those global markets f(x) I would be so here for this. This thread should open up its own company, imagine the huge revenues and global acts slaying worldwide
Shame SM has no vision for f(x). I kinda get why they shelved the Japan debut, but f(x) should have English and Chinese minis/OSTs at least.
SM should really consider giving f(x) more comebacks and other activities.
I consider f(x) one of those groups who can put out good material no matter what.

I first heard 'Gee' on a Maplestory forum a few years ago and I was amazed by their choreo, so I bopped to it for a few days, but it didn't get me interested into K-pop yet.
I believe it was my father's birthday and we had a lot of family over, so I got a bit bored () and I watched some videos on Youtube. After a few videos I got redirected to 2NE1's I Am The Best and downloaded the song. A few months after that I downloaded 2NE1's discography and from there on I went to check some other groups with a lot of video views on Youtube, like f(x), Big Bang and 4minute.
Apparently some really good friends of me were also really into the genre, so they + this thread really got me into the whole K-Pop scene

Well Krystal is rumored to be in a subunit with Jessica. But I don't know about the others. As a group they are popular, but I'm not sure about them as individual idols, though I guess Krystal is popular.

I have absolutely no recollection of getting into k-pop tbh. I was into J-pop at first before I really knew anything about pop music/culture and I somehow got led to Wonder Girls' "Nobody", then I think I found 2NE1...then SHINee...I honestly don't remember. I know that 2NE1 were the only group I listened to at first, then some girl showed me the Lucifer video and I had a bit of a "wtf" moment, but then I got into SHINee. It was all downhill from there.

Well...my story is quite random. It all started with J.Lo and her film Monster In Law that slays. In the movie there's this song by a Britney lookalike that is an English version of a Jolin Tsai song. I used to bop to it on YouTube then saw the comments about the song being by C-Pop artist Jolin. So I got into her.
Then one day I saw this bitchy video of Jolin vs. SNSD:
And I was like who the f--- is SNSD? The comments on that vid are hilarious. So I searched their name and the first MV in K-Pop I saw ever of theirs was Paparazzi and I was like WAIT. After that I just got addicted to this day. The hardest part was trying to tell all 9 of them apart. I still have trouble telling who is singing sometimes.
Fan of SNSD, 4Minute (& HyunA solo), f(x), 2NE1 and BoA. But this thread is awesome because I can see new K-Pop acts that I've never seen before and everyone has their own opinion, unlike other sites where its just fanwars (usually sone vs. blackjack) constantly arguing. So you guys are awesome
I was watching Gaga's Music Station Telephone performance on Youtube and, by accident, clicked a related video, which so happened to be SNSD's Music Station performance of Gee. That then led to their Music Station performance of Genie which led to some wiki work to find out they had just released Hoot on the day this was all unfolding.
Back when their performances were good and their music listenable.

I used youtube as well as a guide to see what would stick. I feel that music is universal it doesn't matter if it's in another language music is something that can be felt and understood if you enjoy it.
I think it really depends on how open minded you are.
It only seems weird because English has become the standard.
You never see anyone ask why people in other countries listen to our western faves when it's in english.

I saw a video of a drag queen performing 2ne1's "I Am The Best"
I became I bit more interested in kpop after I randomly came across Exo's Wolf video on YouTube, but I think it was Growl that got me really into it & made me want to listen to more kpop artists
When I was like 14 (this was back in like 2006) I used to post on a Jpop forum and I saw a thread about a Korean singer stealing one of Britney's songs so I looked Hyori up and I liked some of her other songs I, from there I found more artists I liked. I used to love Bae Seulki and the first group I really liked was WG after they debuted and my friend showed me Irony but then Tell Me came out my life was never the same
