Obama said that he didn't support Gay marriage when he ran in 2008 too. It was only when the majority agreed with Gay marriage that Obama came out and supported it. Call it political expediency, but it would be policitcal dumbness to come out and say you support gay marriage at a time when the majority were despondent to such an idea. It's funny actually. The same man who expressed how he believe a marriage is between a man and woman in 2008, ultimately championed the gay marriage ruling by The Supreme Court I'm 2015.
My guess is that both Hillary and Obama have both believed in Gay marriage for a long time, but it is only now they can say this without fear of losing so many votes.
It would be my guess that Bernie has also had evolving opinions on this matter throughout the years. Luckily, he has never run for President before now, or held a position as enriching as Secretary of State.
