I like how you always talk about how we should adjust this and that for the sales climate (just to benefit Gaga and her declining sales), then compare a 2014 album to a 2008 album.

40% decline, which is more than compensated for since we're comparing two albums complete chartrun against one album's first week.

Mary's new album sounds like it could be awesome. I'm not the biggest fan, but I respect anyone who steps outside their traditional lane/comfort zone to try something new. (As long as it's good. ).

Mary always steps out of her comfort zone, phagg. Poor Keyshia, performing with Jaheim and the like, while the queen has performed with Andrea Bocelli, Sting, George Michael, Bonnie Raitt, Disclosure, Sam Smith, U2 and the list goes on and on.

Why do you think Mary J has had such longevity?

She's somehow mastered the art of being a "team player" without selling out, has a seemingly good rapport with other artists in and outside her genre and of different generations - which allows for broader working opportunities and different audiences to be exposed to her. She's managed to evolve without straying far from what attracted her initial fan base, and therefore she can get up on stage and convincingly perform with Elton John/U2/George Michael/Bruce Springsteeen, be a featured vocalist on some euro/dance song by some abstract pop act...but her own albums don't jump from one extreme to another, so she doesn't alienate or piss off her longtime "Not Gon' Cry"/"Love No Limit" fans. Furthermore she's somehow able to stick out while still staying relatable and 'real,' and is never overexposed.
