SWM is less than 3 minutes, it doesn't get boring at all. You probably just don't like most piano ballads

way to make a stupid ass assumption when you don't know anything about me. yes, shockingly, people who like the same genre as you can not like every song you do! wow! who knew!
i love ballads that are interesting. i love someone like you. hell, adele is one of my favorite artists. i love because of you. i love try and just give me a reason. stay is a good song. i have a lot of issues with wrecking ball, but none of them have to do with it being a ballad or boring, and it's an ok song overall. i love how to save a life. alicia keys has a lot of good songs. i'm not sure how "piano" you'd call some of these but all of these are slow ballads with sparse instrumentation, and all of them are a lot better than stay with me.
i didn't want to lash this song, but challenge and you shall receive. someone like you and because of you have amazing amounts of raw emotion. they're examples of well-expressed, deep sentiment. stay with me might have had a lot of emotion but it sure doesn't sound like it. his voice communicates almost nothing to me, and when it does a little it just sounds like he's trying way too hard. those two songs effortlessly communicate the feelings and let them show without forcing melodrama and vocal cracks. that's one of my issues with stay with me. it all sounds fake, like he was trying to sound emotional with something that doesn't have nearly enough weight. all it is is him liking someone a lot that he's literally known for one day. oh well, that's kinda sad, but it's really not that big of a deal. it presents itself as something as meaningful as because of you but it falls flat because it doesn't have any of the weight to the situation.
so that's two. just give me a reason and how to save a life are well-written with interesting lyrics. stay with me doesn't have any interesting lines at all. it's just "i'm lonely and i like you" and it's not expressed with any more sophistication than that.
three. try has pop rock elements that give it a more interesting production. four.
stay and alicia keys have the vocals. alicia also has an interesting writing style.
and you know, lacking all of these things would be fine. but it's a ballad. a ballad needs something to hook me and make it interesting if the beat isn't interesting. stay with me is boring because it has nothing. it isn't interesting, emotionally powerful, impressive vocally, interesting musically (seriously, that gospel choir thing is so half assed, they do nothing except say "oh" and background vocals) and in the end, it isn't good. at all. the reason it's boring is because it's like sitting through three minutes of background noise.
sam smith is a good artist but this song makes me want to change the station every time it comes on the radio, and i hardly ever change the station. it's not just because it's bad, it's because it bores me. at least bad songs are distinct.
there. if you wanted a description of why i think AATB is a much better song, there you go. and it's definitely not because i don't like piano ballads. christ
