Even in the arenas she played, the situation has really changed.
When I saw her in 2006, she did four dates at the United Center and played to 52,000 people.
She did two dates for Sticky and played to 31,000 people.
Two dates for MDNA and 28,000 people.
One date for RH and 14,000 people.
I wonder if there's concern that people are beginning to "age out" of buying tickets to her shows or if she's losing her draw appeal She's never played just one date here before, aside from Soldier Field on Who's That Girl. And The Girlie was obviously a special situation.
Rebel Heart was not a commercial hit album unlike the others,
MDNA was marketed like a commercial comeback album whereas RH tour were small intimate shows (to those who bought the more personal album)
What is so hard for you to understand to go as far as quesiton ha power

So if the album isn't a hit, she's unable to sell as many tickets? That would be an indication of drawing power...
Or are you saying that she and her team decided to forego a bigger blockbuster tour because it was in keeping with the album's more intimate theme? An 'artist downgrading from arenas to theaters because they want a more personal experience with the fans' tea.

Look at us talking about Madonna though.
She even called Confessions tour an intimate (& personal) tour
Quote:
"A typical Madonna show is quite produced, [...] She likes things large, she likes things theatrical, but this time, being that Confessions on a Dance Floor is an intimate album, we want to try to make people have an intimate experience as well as a big produced theatrical experience. So look for us doing some small venues, some smaller venues. [...] I would like to put her as close to her people — her fans, her dancers, her fellow supporters — as possible

“Confessions” tour came in at $194 million
or did that tour not have any drawing power either?
She is and it's great! I just like to think about these things. I assumed after Sticky and Sweet that she was going to transition to being a primary stadium act like the Rolling Stones and I was curious to see the Rebel Heart Tour step away from that mantle. I could be absolutely wrong about the reasons why RHT stepped away from that, but I'm interested in all the possibilities.

totally gotcha.
maybe she's too controversial, artistique or seksey for becoming a stadium act idk.
personally i'd more fun at the rh tour than the mdna tour.
both were great but i really wanna experience the rh slayage again and again and again

An intimate tour that sold more tickets than the previous two and was - at the time - the highest grossing tour ever by a woman. Then her next tour more than doubled its gross and MDNA grossed more than $100 million more. It just seemed like she was on this upward incline and if she was never going to repeat Sticky and Sweet's performance again, I assumed she'd stay at a certain level.
Maybe it has something to do with the economy, maybe this wasn't the best time to tour certain markets that would have contributed to a higher gross. Her next tour could come along and gross another $300 million. But this tour played to half the audience of MDNA with about the same amount of dates and in a touring-based musical economy, the choice to go that route strikes me as odd. Maybe that really was her intention, I don't know.
But the Rebel Heart Tour started in the fall, it was too cold for stadiums. So going into the European shows in November it would have been impossible. But okay, let's play devil's advocate and say that she downgraded by going back to arenas, she still pulled really good numbers. And I don't think the scope of the show would have worked in huge venues anyways
totally gotcha.

Honestly, of the four Madonna tours I've seen, MDNA was my least favorite There was just this sadness to it that I can't quite place my finger on. Rebel Heart was so warm and she was such a sweetheart on it. I think of a review of Girlie Show that said it was a funner, more accessible Madonna after the stern lack of spontaneity on Blond Ambition and I'd say the same for Rebel Heart following MDNA.
It is also worth nothing several world currencies had less power over the US dollar last year, which clearly impacted the reporting of the gross in US dollars (Canada, Mexico, most of Europe ) had this been in 2008, we would have seen bigger numbers.
