Pop spectacle or musical genius? Passing fad or here to stay? Attention seeker or leader of the freaks? People will argue about the answer to all of these and I'm going to tell you what is the right answer and you are going to damn well listen.
Lady Gaga has called Born This Way the album of the decade, it has been hyped to be life-changing, generation defining music and now that it is out some people are praising it, some expectations have been met and some people have jumped ship because Gaga is allegedly not fun anymore? If you still miss the Gaga we met during The Fame then you are a seriously misguided information, her growth as an artist and a person has given us music that is increasingly interesting and yes, still fun. But what do I think about Born This Way you say? I think it is everything she said it would be and I'm going to tell you why in a track by track run down.
1. Marry the Night - I am well aware that some people have criticised this track as self indulgent and I have heard some people say that it is not cohesive with the rest of the album. Well how about we this of it as the opening note of the album? Gagas ode to the city that birthed her, if it wasn't for the experiences she documents in this song, we wouldn't have a Born This Way to listen to. Yes the beats are similar to the style of Deadmau5 and you know what? It works, it is awesome. The verses are incredibly well written and we see the first of what this album very often offers, big choruses. Anthemic, I can do it, I will make it through, 80s hair metal choruses. The perfect way to introduce this album and let's be honest, the perfect way to lull the pop-only lovers into a false sense of security.
Best line: Raise my whiskey up high, kiss the bartender twice I'm a loser
2. Born This Way I don't need to say much about this song, we have all formed our own opinions on this song over the past 3 and a half months, the rest of the album has overshadowed and outdone it but it is still an amazing pop song, people will come back to this once they have played the album a good 50 times. It opened the era and dominated the charts, don't be too harsh on this little gem. Oh and the Express Yourself comparisons? Give up please. Plenty of songs sounded like that before Express Yourself and plenty of songs will sound like that after Born This Way, common chord progressions and self-love messages do not equate the same song.
Best line: In the religion of the insecure I must be myself respect my youth
3. Judas - People asked for Bad Romance 2.0, she delivers it in this biblical pop mash and what do people do? Complain. Typical. Lyrically an conceptually a pop masterpiece, the Judas-Judah-as chants are stuck in the heads of even avid Gaga haters, do not even lie. And the video is her best since Bad Romance also. This shouldn't have flopped on the radio because it is 50 times better than most of the generic pop floating around, true art is progressive and controversial and that is what this is, dark, thumping, sexy pop and flopping on the radio or not it is a masterpiece and constantly on in the clubs, the hunting grounds of the little monsters.
Best line: In the cultural sense I just speak in future tense, Judas kiss me if offensed or wear ear condom next time
4. Goverment Hooker - Thanks to the Mugler remix this was one of the most anticipated tracks on the album and has fast become a fan favourite, it is also the first hint we get that the album is changing gears, away from Gagas pop side and into some European club style music, much like The Fame Monster hinted she was on her way to doing. For me this song isn't what everyone said it is, it is a fantastic and hilarious song but it's not anywhere near the best on the album. It is obviously poking fun at politicians and their love-hate relationships with prostitutes and on the flipside people who sleep with other people for power, at least that is my perception of the song. The best bits of the song are the pervy voice of her body guard and the chilling giggles he slides into the song. The beat is amazing but this song is pretty repetitive and light on words. A killer album track but not on the same level as the rest of the album.
Best line: Put your hands on me, John F Kennedy, I'll make you squeal baby, as long as you pay me
5. Americano - This has the potential to be the summer smash of 2011, the vibe is hot and different to anything on the radio at the moment. The only song on the album that really tells a story, girl meets girl, falls in love...struggle ensues. The loud Ahhahhahha America Americanos make for the perfect sing a long when your driving and while it is a catchy pop meets mariachi band song on the surface, Gaga says it is about immigration laws in America, a less in your face political message that the albums title track but meaningful none the less. I will be horrifically dissapointed if this doesn't make it as a single. The gun-shot and abrupt end of the song make for one of the best moments on the album.
Best line: I will fight for, I have fought for how I love you
6. Hair - An ode to Cyndi Lauper and her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun days, this song turns the album in the direction of 80s glamrock/pop direction, saxophones are introduced and the choruses move from big and loud to terrifyingly inspirational. Most people disliked this song on first listen but it really is a grower, what makes you feel better than whippin your hair back and forth? She has captured that in a song. We will all be shouting 'I am my hair' in the future. The immature and cheesy lyrics are intentional, the song is clearly written to her young teenage self, this is potentially a big hit.
Best lyric: I've had enough this is my prayer, that I'll die living just as free as my hair

I'm glad, because people on that 'Goodbye Nicole' thread were saying you, Biblio, Jay or Rainbows would be the next to go

Like she expected Gaga to do whatever she wanted instead of being true to her art.
I found her whole speech very self-indulgent and like she was considering her opinion and stanship more important than all of ours.
I didn't think it was necessary.

It was funny to see all the non-fans completely jump on Nicole's side, though...

I'm not here for sheep, some people serious need to learn how to form their own opinions. Listen to what makes you happy, don't give a **** what anyone else thinks.
