Labels can't make an artist to do any and everything. The Katy example is normal, of course they can ask for their artist to begin writing / recording. That doesn't = being forced and the artist not wanting to do it. Rihanna could have chosen to take a break, but she obviously chose to record. Unless her contract details exact times she needs to release an album, she can decide when she wants to, as long as it's reasonable with the label. You make them sound like companies ran by Hitler, not the case. And only few times we've seen such issues and usually with unprofessional labels like RCA (Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera).

Yeah, exactly. And I remember Madonna saying one time that she has to like release an album after many however months when she was with Warner. It was like 20 months or something like that.

Since they were not going to release anything else from Rated R she almost had to put something else out. You can't snooze in today's competitive field or you can end up like Christina. If she can get more movie roles then we will see her take longer breaks because she won't rely on music to keep her name and face out there.

I think it's Rihannas choice to release another album so fast , but her choice is fully supported by her label unlike a lot of artists.

For all we knew she signed a 10 album detail and her label wants get to stay revelant enough to sell them all?

I doubt that. I'm thinking 6, then after it's done (with this album then a GH, I'm guessing) she'll sign with Roc Nation and prob only release something every 2 years or whatever. I feel as if Def Jam pushes her to do it, but it's not like she doesn't wanna.
