I dont get how he could have been though, when they gave him the better songs on Sunday
Well, actually that's not true. Only "It's Oh So Quiet" was the wrong choice.

The Whitney song was wrong either. It was and sounded way too oldfashioned.

Hmm, I think it fit Saara's story though, although I think they could have done slightly changed the arrangement, I agree.

Saara's song choices on the final weekend were all wrong. Matt's song choices were all right.
Anyway. Matt came into the live shows as a front runner (see the voting stats). None of the girls were good enough to win - Simon did manage to keep Emily on the show for a long time even though her weak voice gave in due to X Factor's grueling workload and illness. Simon blew it with the girls at judges' houses. Ryan and Freddy weren't going to win, but I was surprised to see Freddy go that early.
5AM were the only half decent group and with some production help they did well in the voting.
Honey G was the joke act, but not a likable one. Saara and Relley C were both cast as fodder. Both could really sing, but Relley C was handicapped by little to no coverage before the lives and Saara was damaged by her 6 Chair Challenge disaster. Plus, she came across as fake in her VTs. The fact that she made it to 2nd place in the end is an achievement.
So Matt came into the lives as a front runner. He lost some momentum towards the end and Simon tried to damage his chances. In the last few weeks of the show the vote was really close between the acts.
Going into the final, Saara had more momentum. But then her song choices for the final weekend were all wrong and Matt and Nicole slayed Purple Rain. This gave Matt he momentum. That duet probably saved him from finishing 3rd and he probably managed to fly past Saara once the voting re-opened after the freeze. He then performed really well on Sunday, again with better song choices. Simon totally wrote Matt off on Saturday, but I think on Sunday night he already suspected that the writing was on the wall and he retracted a bit. However, it didn't come across well.
I'm thrilled for Matt, I think he deserved to win and was the once who actually wanted to win. Saara was a bit vary of being tied to SYCO.

The voting numbers as a % of the average vote that week (so for example, the average vote in Week 1 with 11 acts was 9.09% and Matt Terry got 22.2% of the vote, meaning that he got 244% of the average vote)
What stood out to me most was that IOSQ was Saara's best week, maybe it wasn't that bad a choice after all, and that they must have been so sure that they could beat Matt

You better mention that in your video intro!
Actually, wait. Maybe don't... Because the UK will then go "Oh look see, we let a Finnish do well and now she brings the immigrants!"

I know, it could backfire but for her not to take the blame I can mention her along andrea fausini, 4th impact, sean miley moore, the lady from last year who was eliminated because of us visa issues and whatnot.
I wanna be the first contestant to make it to lives from the American continent
