There are some songs that you guys write that I know wouldn't be picked up my major artists (not even just mainstream pop stars) yet showcase wonderful lyrics and word play and structure. Like you guys nail it, its just not what the industry really looks for to sell. There are songs that you guys write that are super simple and sound like they were churned up by some hit making writing camp that I know you could sell and at least make a few thousand bucks in royalties indefinitely, if you word your contract right!

If you're a songwriter, it's all about lyrical prowess. It has to be meaningful, personal and powerful.
If you're a singer, songwriter and performer, you need to find a balance cause the market needs singles and so does your bank account
