1M people downloaded the album within 15 hours and Samsung paid on their behalf! More artists should do that (if they're offered a similar deal), a great way to prevent illegal downloads and benefit everyone. People get an album for free, but the artist gets paid and the sales get certified.

Doesn't matter. If 1,000,000 copies were bought by Target, for example, and no one bought them, it would still be platinum because the distributor bought the copies. They become a sale once someone purchases a copy from the distributor, which no one did for ANTi.

RIAA certifies albums based off sales to retailers / shipments. Samsung was the retailer. 1 million copies were sold to them.

It would've still got the certification regardless of if the consumers downloaded them. Like Ariana Grande's "My Everything" being certified Platinum because 1 million copies sold to retailers... despite selling 700K to date.

The RIAA certified it the next day because why would they be in their office past business hours certifying an album at 10 PM?

Bey got a 50M deal with Pepsi, didn't use a buck to her own sales and still went on to push 1 million in 10 days without the use of zippyshare. Not to mention "4", which leaked 1 month early and still went on to sell 300K+ first week.

Jay got a similar deal than Rih and opened with 500K+

too bad every album Before 1991 only have certifications and not hard sales (besides the copies sold post 1991)...
