the two songs that were released yesterday were russian roulette and favourite girl, right? both songs were rising constantly until RR stuck at two with just little bars behind fireflies, right?

Last.fm monitors your top tracks by most played in last 7 days (or at least that's one of the options). Imagine if you shortened that to 4 days, with the change taking effect immediately. Tracks that were staying at the top because of plays in the first 3 days would suddenly drop (maybe drop off totally). Tracks getting a lot of plays on the day you changed it (but songs that still didn't have enough plays to pass the older songs) would shoot up.
This would also make it harder to gauge what your most played track for the entire week is, however, because that track may fall off after the 5th day, because it got a lot of plays in the first part of the week.
Sorry if that's even more confusing. Just thought I'd put it in a context that many people are familiar with.
