When you understand what BW gi through everyday in regards to their hair...you'll understand why they react the way they do.

Well, why do you think so many black girls go through so much trouble to make their hair "look like white girls?"
When it is ingrained in young women's heads that black hair is ugly, ghetto, unruly, etc. it really isn't a huge shock that those same black women would go out of their way to spend hundreds of dollars buying the beautiful, "good" hair. Or spend money to chemically straighten their hair. Or have to start a god damn movement just to get people to appreciate the hair that grows out of their own scalps.
People did entirely too much on this girl but the whole black girls appropriating Brazilians, Russians, etc. because of weave is a ridiculous counterpoint. Because this white girl rocking box braids does not carry with it the years of social conditioning that make many black women resort to weaves, wigs, and perms in the first place. "Beyquisha". Calling Rihanna's dreads ugly and ghetto. ****** trying to set up petitions for Blue to get her hair done. Too many times I have people with no edges ask me "and when are you going to do something with that head of yours?"
The fact of the matter is that this white girl can take out the box braids and wear her natural hair texture and still be considered beautiful. But let a black girl take her weave out or pull off that wig and Kunta Kinte comments are thrown around. That is the real issue at hand.
Unfortunately, when it comes to black people it is never "just hair." It is actually a very sensitive issue. And I think that is why so many reacted strongly to this girl's box braids in the first place.
(And let me just say that there is nothing inherently wrong with weaves, wigs, and perms.)

Thank you, thank you for this.

The people on Twitter did way too much though. They are the reason why people get tired of these necessary discussions and don't take them seriously.

Funny how you ignored this beautiful post that was in the previous page
For the dummies that missed it:

Wait not when black girls get weaves. This is stupid.
EDIT : African Americans do too much tbh. They are trying to be offended all the time tbh. I'm black but I saw nothing wrong at all. Seems like the real apartheid is in their minds and it seems not to want to leave.

Why was I reported? It was an opinion?
I happen to be black, and I actually think she looks great. She pulled it off better than some actual black girls I know!!

She looks beautiful, leave her alone it's just a hairstyle, they should be worrying about racism not a hairstyle.

Once again, I don't understand why people spend their time focusing on petty **** like this when there are actual hate crimes and actual racism going on in the world. Let the girl have her braids

The issue is then the stigma of black girls being considered ghetto not people of other races wearing it, the ignorance and reach

ddd whatever mess America has been able to create in 400 years can hardly be called a 'culture', black or white
Anyway, I get the segregation but this girl is 12 and didn't mean any harm, educate her don't bash her, and even then there's hardly anything wrong with this
