I'm pretty sure they went to the same school, at least in the Japanese version. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Japanese students aren't required to wear uniforms until they enter junior high, which Takeru and Hikari are currently in. Remember Taichi, Sora and Koushiro (and Miyako in the fourth film) wore them in Zero Two also.
Taichi also doesn't have his goggles, which he should if they were retconning Zero Two, I think?
The 'tri.' in the title bodes well though, I think.
