So lets break this down into your two paragraphs:
1. Damien did not run the other VJ's out of town. MTV was doing cutbacks and decided to keep only one VJ and they chose him for whatever reason.
2. I don't watch TRL but I think the specials are a great thing. Do you really want to see the same 10 videos over and over every single day. Oh and if you don't like it, take a lot of our leads and don't watch it.

TRL is turned into a teenage hang out room :-/ it's not even about the top 10 anymore, they hardly even show it anymore, I miss the old VJ's(Vanessa,Susie,LaLa,Quddis,Hileriw even Carson) they made TRL awesome, I don't like Lynsay that much, she looks like Susie with an foreign accent syndrome

Chris Brown is gettin' damn close 2 number 1 (Wut Damien said) I doubt that.. Flo Rida number 2,1,1,1,2 in the categories. At least he's only number 1 in 3 not 4 categories.. Unless something happens in the next few days, I'm betin' the top 4 will stay the same (meaning same top 4, no movements, Flo Rida still number 1... Chris Brown 2, Rihanna 3, Britney 4.

I watched TRL yesterday. They slammed the entire video countdown 10-1 in under a minute in order to make room for Tyler Hilton (Yes... him...with nothing that's coming out in the near future), the guy who slammed the superbowl win (cool, but should've happened last week...), and some random grammy videos (fair idea).
And Lyndsey almost makes me say "Vanessa Ma-who?"
Otherwise, yes this show is quite weird in a bad way now:
