First, you have to step a bit out of this ATRL world, and realise that what ATRL thinks =/= what the GP thinks.
Of course, for Gaga's stans, her performances are way better than Rihanna's, and i won't lie, she has some very good, mind-blowing performances, but, if you go on the streets, and ask a random person who does he think performed better (for example: Born this Way, Gaga, Grammy's 2011 or Stay, Rihanna ft Mikky Ekko, Grammy's 2012) do you think that for that random person, would be Gaga's, that steped out of a egg, with those things „implanted” on her skin, or Rihanna's simple, but good and efective performance?
But to answer this question, Lady Gaga was a better performer back then, and now I would say them are equal. And why are y'all acting like it's a surprise that Gaga it's winning this poll, when you know that the biggest fanbase in here it's the Monsters?

Rihanna's best performance live is always going to be Where Have You Been. Lady Gaga nails it each time. Rihanna is too lazy to surpass Gaga's performance ability.

ATRL might not be entirely indicative of what the general public thinks, but over 70% of members here agree that Gaga is still a superior live performer; ATRL is not composed of 70% monsters, so that shows that more people than just Gaga stans would say Gaga is a better performer. Furthermore, while Rihanna does have some very impressive performances, asking just which of their most recent Grammy night performances is better limits the options far too much. If you were to set up a sort of major public poll in which people could view all of each artist's best performances, that would be a lot more fair, and I think that it would yield a different result from what you gave as an example. Gaga's egg stunt and her prosthetics themselves might not be necessary parts of a good and effective performance, but her vocals, her enthusiasm, and the overall spectacle of the show do make her performances stand out a bit. Picking at the minor details or very specific things isn't an effective way to criticize the entire performance as a whole.

I agree with you. And it's not me that criticize the egg thing or the other details, but for the general public that, I think, would look a little bit weird, and that for them it could be a criterion to judge if a performance it's good or bad.

And yes, Rihanna has improved vocally (though Stay is pretty easy to pull off, let's be real) but her performance skills will probably never be on par with Gaga's.
