#180-#161
200 to 181
 | #180: Crystal Castles / Pale Flesh
Adolescent fiance; I'm just flesh to give away
Though it admittedly took a while for this track to grow on me, it became one of the standouts from their album. The icy, messy array of synths and hidden foggy vocals are too interesting to ignore. The song as a whole is a little bitter, but it leaves an impression.

Album: Crystal Castles III / Album Ranking: 2nd
Plays total: 51 / Released: 2012 / Crystal Castles' Top 200 Appearance: 2 of 8
|
 | #179: Neon Hitch / Black and Blue
These bruises make me who I am today
Much like Piece of Sh*t, this track is an empowerment anthem aimed at abuse victims, and even depicts Neon herself as a victim, leaving a deep and everlasting impression as a listener. The song mixes dull pop melodies and beautiful, simplistic instrumentation.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Plays total: 26 / Released: 2011 / Neon Hitch's Top 200 Appearance: 2 of 9
|
 | #178: Brandy / Wish Your Love Away
If I had one wish left, oh I would wish your love away
The lyric I gave isn't a good representation, but the song is a beautiful R&B ballad about being too in love with someone to the point of no return. I found myself actually enjoying Brandy's genre here, it's very nicely produced and tells a very good story.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Two Eleven / Album Ranking: Honorable Mention
Plays total: 26 / Released: 2012 / Brandy's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 2
|
 | #177: Rita Ora / R.I.P. (feat. Tinie Tempah)
I wonder if you'll be able to handle me; mental pictures, no cameras please
Though I'm not particularly fond of Miss Ora, this track penned by Drake is an undeniably great one. I do wish he was featured, though. It's perfect to wail along to in the club, and I enjoyed listening to it the very few times it'd come on the radio
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: O.R.A. / Album Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 22 / Released: 2012 / Rita Ora's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 3
|
 | #176: Conor Maynard / Turn Around (feat. Ne-Yo)
We can see forever from up here; long as we’re together, have no fear
This cutesy jam is currently working its' way up US radio, and though it may flop, I still deeply enjoy it. It's a good example of pop perfection. Mr. Maynard may not be the cutest boy singer, but he certainly has the voice. He should probably step away from songs about girls and sex, though.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Contrast / Album Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 29 / Released: 2012 / Conor Maynard's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 1
|
 | #175: Less Than Jake / Plastic Cup Politics
Drop your plastic cups and clear your clouded heads
I remembered this band from my childhood when my sister used to listen to them, and out of nostalgia I decided to give an album of theirs a listen, and I actually enjoyed quite a few tracks. The lyrical anarchy and high-driven ska punk connects with me
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Anthem / Album Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 16 / Released: 2003 / Less Than Jake's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 1
|
 | #174: Cyndi Lauper / Rocking Chair
Oh my rockin' chair, rock me tender in the night air
This weird pop song tells a story about a suicidal woman, but you'd never know that from listening to it. It sounds like a salsa-influenced dancehall track. Cyndi yowls her strange lyrics as usual, but they go unnoticed, and that's possibly the best part about this track.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Bring Ya to the Brink / Album Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 26 / Released: 2008 / Cyndi Lauper's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 2
|
 | #173: Azealia Banks / Barbie Sh*t
Clap on a ***** like Ay Bay Bay, we'll pull the trigger out in broad day
This release snub is perfect when you're feeling real hood or w/e. It's got thousands of one-liners and though it's hard to follow along, it's still a great bumper with the overwhelmingly explosive bassline. Long, weave, lipstick, a bitch look plastic.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: N/A / Album Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 24 / Released: 2010 / Azealia Banks' Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 10
|
 | #172: Panda Bear / Scheherezade
I see it all the time, though I might not desire
I listened to this record on a random chance, and it didn't click much with me, but I do enjoy this track. It's very, very melancholy and blurry, once my mom told me I listen to depressing music because I was listening to it. That made me feel like a cool emo.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Tomboy / Album Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 15 / Released: 2011 / Panda Bear's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 1
|
 | #171: Björk / Immature
How extremely lazy of me!
This song is built off of the signature Björk sound, perfectly uniform percussion and strange lyrical structure. I guess there's nothing I can truly say about this song besides the fact that I love it and it's perfect Björk. How could I be so immature?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Homogenic / Album Ranking: #13
Plays total: 30 / Released: 1997 / Björk's Top 200 Appearance: 2 of 8
|
 | #170: Christina Aguilera / Blank Page
If I could undo that I hurt you I would do anything for us to make it through
This incredible ballad is everything Xtina that the world could want. Definitely a stand-out from Lotus, this Sia-penned track is clearly incredible. The beautiful upon beautiful stanzas should be giving everyone hope in Xtina for good, this track is beyond amazing!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Lotus / Album Ranking: #11
Plays total: 38 / Released: 2012 / Christina Aguilera's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 6
|
 | #169: Alanis Morissette / Will You Be My Girlfriend?
I haven't felt I had the right to be supported with a golden tenderness
This awkward bonus track is my favorite track from Alanis in a while. It's a track about a relationship, but it's not very easy to pinpoint which, but that's okay. It's a cute, mellow track that I clearly enjoy! No, this song does not mean she is a lesbian.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Havoc and Bright Lights / Album Ranking: Honorable Mentions
Plays total: 23 / Released: 2012 / Alanis Morissette's Top 200 Appearance: 2 of 2
|
 | #168: will.i.am & Britney Spears / Scream and Shout
Ohh-wee-ohhhh-wee-oh-wee-oh
There's not a whole lot of lyrical magic in this track But I still love it. Produced by someone who makes another appearance later in my top 200, this track was a surprising release, and definitely was a grower for me - at first I didn't really like it Plus the video is scary.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: #willpower / Album Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 23 / Released: 2012 / will.i.am/Britney's Top 200 Appearances: 1 of 1
|
 | #167: Björk / Oceania
Every pearl is a lynx, is a girl - sweet like harmony made into flesh
I got this song mixed up with a different one when I first downloaded it, but later sorted it out. It's such an interesting track, consistent of the vocal abnormalities consistent throughout this entire album, and I very much enjoy it for that. Plus, Oceania is a pretty name.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Medúlla / EP Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 33 / Released: 2004 / Björk's Top 200 Appearance: 3 of 8
|
 | #166: Jeffree Star / If It Kills Me
Do or die dare devil I’m obsessed til’ I get you I’m in cardiac arrest
This song was given away for free download earlier this year, and I must ask myself why this actually good masterpiece was shelved, because it's better than anything Jeffree has ever done, IMO. It's a huge, great electronic jam. Both sonically and lyrically, honestly.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: N/A / EP Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 25 / Released: 2012 / Jeffree Star's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 1
|
 | #165: Brandi Carlile / A Promise to Keep
I gave you the moon and the stars to keep, but you gave them back to me
I have been meaning to listen to something by Brandi for years now, and I took this album as an opportunity and was pleased. She's very talented with her melodies and lyrics, and I found deeply rooted enjoyment in listening to her this year! This song itself is just plain good.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Bear Creek / Album Ranking: Honorable Mention
Plays total: 29 / Released: 2012 / Brandi Carlile's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 3
|
 | #164: Rihanna / No Love Allowed
Like a bullet, your love hit me to the core
I'll be the first to admit that Rihanna's islander-infused jams are some of the best, i.e. Man Down, and now this. This song makes me wish Rih would quit her gross Unapologetic mess and make an album full of these jams. I'm sure one day we will see such a release
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Unapologetic / Album Ranking: Honorable Mention
Plays total: 27 / Released: 2012 / Rihanna's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 6
|
 | #163: Nicki Minaj / The Boys (feat. Cassie)
I just come through with a six, like my name was blossom
This song should've done a LITTLE bit more than flop to the pits, but I do give it to Nicki for trying desperately to revive Cassie. It probably worked a little more than people give her credit for, because this song is actually quite a bop.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up / EP Ranking: #4
Plays total: 42 / Released: 2012 / Nicki Minaj's Top 200 Appearance: 3 of 12
|
 | #162: Demi Lovato / In Real Life
Hearts can break, and never make a sound
Though GYHAB is also a bop, this track is my favorite from Demi's latest album. It tells a cute story about the tables turning in a relationship, much like That's More Like It by Selena. It's actually quite an impressive track vocally and sonically for Demi, I am left impressed.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Album: Unbroken / Album Ranking: N/A
Plays total: 18 / Released: 2011 / Demi Lovato's Top 200 Appearance: 1 of 1
|
 | #161: Zedd / Stache (feat. Lady Gaga)
Princess high die princess high die WHERE'S MY STASH
This MESSY complextro track has had me bopping since its' release. I'm so pleased Gaga released a weed hit, tbqh. I really love this track and it knocks even though it's super simple and hilariously talentless. Haters can prolly just sit, though.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

No Love Allowed is so laid-back, I love it.
It's like a continuation of Man Down, which
I loved as well. I love how she includes at
least one reggae-influenced song on each
album.
The Boys is amazing. I totally prefer Cassie on it.
Her voice is beautifully soothing and the song
wouldn't have been the same without her.
Blank Page is the type of song I was looking for
on Lotus, and while I love it, I was disappointed
that she opted for the usual mainstream stuff. I
think she has more chances to slay with this type of song.
Nice set

It really is a Man Down continuation, I hope she makes a full-on album eventually
The Boys wouldn't be the same without Cassie. She definitely makes the track.
I definitely agree about Blank Page. She needs to stick to the soul genre that Blank Page is.
