First of all, I'd like to say I'm not white. Secondly I'd like to say that racism will never go away. That's a fact. However, the fight should be for rights and the government's support for us to be who we are and to make sure that we have the liberty to live out ourselves in a way that is not discriminated against on the federal level. However, worrying about how people say "No blacks/no asians/no hispanics" on their Grindr profile (which has been the only racial issue brought up concerning the LGBTQ community exclusively) is stupid. It may be a racist thing to say, but why worry about idiots? Your rights are not being violated. And neither are theres. Have your opinion on it, but why get angry over it? I don't get the point. And I'm going to leave this here.
I screamed.
I bet you have bookmarks for Don Lemon and Ben Carson too.
Slave 1: Massa don't give a **** bout no one but him.
Slave 2: That ain't true, he loves us, that's why he got Don, the House ****** staying in the house
Slave 3: Just 'cause he stay in the house don't mean they ain't raping him too
I bet you have bookmarks for Don Lemon and Ben Carson too.
I actually have never heard of them because I don't care to read about race issues for fun when there are much more interesting things to get involved in.
Not following what most other black people think doesn't place me as a stereotype. But if calling me that makes you feel better, have at it.
Representation in the media isn't exclusive to the LGBTQ community though, which is what the title of the thread is about. I said that the only racial thing people have posted that's in regards to how the LGBTQ community handles race is that and please provide another example if I'm wrong. Media representation and erasure is beyond the LGBTQ community.
You obviously have trouble comprehending.
This thread is not about whether or not lack of visibility is beyond the LGBT community but discussing the issue within it.
Going beyond is OFF TOPIC. CREATE YOUR OWN THREAD ON IT.
I'm talking about MEDIA that IS SELF-PROCLAIMED LGBT, REPRESENTS THE COMMUNITY and WHOSE TARGET AUDIENCE IS....wait for it....LGBT PEOPLE!!
With that said to talk about the preference thing specifically it used to bother me because I wasn't used to mess like that
but after a while I stopped caring cause I'm not obsessing over white **** anyway.
I've noticed that alot of minorities who complain about that might not even be into their own race.
Which makes me kinda care less about that particular issue.
Like girl love yourself first before you start looking to grindr for a white man too love ya
I'm not reading that because it's true but real exclusion from this "community" is for the people who are (naturally) tanned/brown. The ones that don't get any acknowledgment.
They are not being excluded.... people of colour are excluding themselves cuz their social/cultural environment is often less accepting of gay people and most of them don't come out... if you're not out you won't advocate/promote gay prides/events/shows etc...
The biggest problem with these tacky generalizations is that they have the ability to influence younger minority gays, before they actually experience reality, that they are essentially unwanted, and are better off staying at home closed off from the world.
That's why it bothers me so much.
According to this thread, you would think that gay clubs/neighborhoods are essentially whites (and maybe latinos according to your philosophy) dancing in the center, under the lights, and having a good time... with a bunch of discarded, unwanted blacks sulking on the perimeter from social exclusion. Thats the picture painted by the hyperbolic claims in this thread.
Needless to say, that's not the truth at all. And people with actual real life experience know this.
You make no sense and bring nothing to this conversation.
No one is talking about blacks sulking because no one is dancing with them.
It's about lack of presentation in LGBT and when there is representation it is white washed.
It's about how gays can sometime only date a certain race. I'm not talking about preference, but strictly dating one race.
It's about white gays mocking/making fun of poc LGBT
I'm actually glad that your life is so blessed that you never had to deal with these things but please refrain from downplaying other's experience.
What I don't get is why people stay focusing on LGBT related racism as if there is some sort of unique racism that white LGBT people commit. We all know that race and sexual orientation are different, so why is it hard to get that whites who are gay can still be brought up with racist ideals just like heterosexual whites? Just because you're LGBT doesn't mean you'll sympathize with every single outcast or minority. The community comes from every single background, even the politically incorrect ones. So instead of trying to come at the LGBT community like it's some fraudulent organization, you should call out racism as a whole.

lmao are you seriously that incapable of comprehending????
1) You essentially just listed all the reasons WHY I said someone would get the impression that the gay scene is miserable for minorities in the (hypothetical) way I described.
And
2). Had you actually read my post's, you would see my primary crtiticism is that people ARE NOT speaking from their personal experience. They're speaking anectdotally and hypothetically. And the few that were, were citing grindr preferences as the only example of "white privelege" in the LGBT "community"
...not only are you curious but you seem to be unaware of Google or how to use it.
he was just asking for specific examples, the ones that made you create this 17 page discussion... what a messy attitude you have....
OT: I don't wanna be rude, but the "white washed" representation or whatever has been always present. Sadly, ranting about this on atrl won't open people's eyes. Yes, it is basically a gay forum. But do you think some of these people actually care? it is really really good that people are interested in discussing these kind of things, but let's be serious. "Dragging" people here, and accusing them of racism because they have preferences (I saw some posts on the first pages) won't change a thing

a) have you read the whole thread? and secondly even if you haven't go outside of ATRL and read.
I mean do I need to google that for you??
...not only are you curious but you seem to be unaware of Google or how to use it. Here's a start:
Googling wouldn't have done much to tell which one's you were criticizing.
I don't read any of those, so I can't comment first-hand on what they do or don't include. Are they as non-diverse inside as they are on the outside? I would be surprised if so, but then you'd certainly have a point.
With that said, demographics must be taken into account again. Only 8% of this country is black, an even smaller # of which are gay. Obviously if they aren't including blacks/or other minorities at all, then I'd say its unfortunate. But if they're just not using them "enough"...I'd say it's a proportion thing.

This is an internet forum
We all have access to a search engine.
It was clear flamebait but I posted the images regardless so there is undeniable evidence (AKA receipts) of the points in the OP that are for discussion.
It's not about making people care, it's opening the discussion for those who do and want to discuss it.
If you or anyone else here does not like what's contained within or 'doesn't care' then there are thousands of other threads about more trivial subjects for you to enjoy

This is my perspective too
But anyway, this is besides the point, the topic at hand is non-white representation in LGBT media... Which I find to be a non-topic, or at the very least, it's not a separate topic from lack of portrayal of non-whites in mainstream media, PERIOD. Hence, why we often have "black shows"/movies, mainstream shows or movies will have one "token" black character at best, etc. There is nothing unique about the LGBT problem of lack of visibility, it's the same issue as in straight society. And there's nothing about the LGBT experience that should make this otherwise; if you think so then you should also agree that there's something about the black/latino experience that should make those groups less homophobic (which sadly isn't the case).
