Power could be cut to parts of lower Manhattan early Sunday about the time Hurricane Irene arrives in New York City, a Con Ed official said Saturday.John Miksad, vice president of electric operations, said the utility might choose to cut the power to about 6,500 customers if the storm hits and a high tide arrives at the same time, which could produce flooding in lower Manhattan.

"That call should be made between 2 and 10 a.m. and it would take two or three days to get everything back up and running," Miksad said at the city's Office of Emergency Management in Brooklyn.
