I wonder which movie is going to make more money in 2012 between Avengers and Dark Knight Rises?!
Really good question. It's too hard to estimate now, but I think the Avengers would the favourites. The cast of numerous movies are coming together for it. DKR won't make as much money as its predecessor. Heath Ledger's death was a major draw for the last film.
1. Immortals (1), Relativity Media/3,112, $32 million
2. Jack and Jill (1), Sony/3,438, $26 million
3. Puss in Boots (3), Paramount/DreamWorks Animation/3,903, $25.5 million, $108.8 million
4. Tower Heist (2), Universal/3,370, $13.2 million, $43.9 million
5. J Edgar (1), Warner Bros./1,1910, $11.5 million
6. A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (2), Warner Bros./New Line/1,910, $5.9 million, $23.2 million
7. In Time (3), Fox/New Regency/2,591, $4.2 million, $30.7 million
8. Paranormal Activity 3 (4), Paramount/,2,776, $3.6 million, $100.8 million
9. Footloose (5), Paramount/2,215, $2.7 milion, $48.9 million
10. Real Steel (6), Disney/DreamWorks/1,758, $2 million, $81.7 million
What HAPPENED? The first one cockblocked the best Bond movie in decades. Did people finally tire of all the awful CGI animated films where animals rap and cover new hit songs and make pop culture references and jokes?
Opening up room for The Muppets to hopefully sweep next week
TDKR would have to look terrible for it not to break the record tbh.
I think Heath Ledger's death was a huge contributing factor to the last movie generating so much revenue. TDKR may open with larger numbers, but I don't think it will come close to matching its predecessors final numbers.
