Madonna did this cover in order to "bring some diversity" to the
Like a Virgin album. It was the first time she recorded with an orchestra and Nile Rodgers', the album's producer, said that during the process she started crying, and he kept it in the final version.
She put it again in the ballad compilation
Something to Remember, in a remixed version, and this time with a proper single release. The song was not really successful, however, peaking at #78 on Billboard.
I don't think I've ever seen a live performance of this. If anyone knows one, share it with us!
The video features Madonna singing in an abandoned hotel room.
I actually love this cover. It's deeply emotional and beautiful, and it
does bring variety to
Like a Virgin. 8.
