I don't know what all this abuse talk is about but I got whoopings for good reasons. When I talked backed or did something I wasn't supposed to be doing I was punished for it. Like some of these girls need to STOP while they're ahead, they're probably the ones that talk back and even hit their parents

I guess I view it differently for me because I never really got hit for behaving badly. Usually only got hit for not getting perfect scores or tests or sneaking to watch tv instead of studying. Maybe because I think my beatings were unjustified.

I did too. And I don't think it made me a better person? I just grew out of being a dick to my parents If anything it's more traumatizing to hit children. Their reflexes fall out of proportion when people want to shake hands.

I worked with children senior year of high school and I went to high five one of them and they were scared. Turned out his parents abused him. It's not okay for children at a young age to believe that violence is okay or a solution to any outcome.

I personally just find that taking away privileges is an easier and healthier solution.

The studies link spanking to reduced vocabulary around the ages of 8-11, reduced grey matter in the brain which is linked to decision making and processing, etc. Those are not SERIOUS mental disabilities and thus you wouldn't KNOW if your parents' spanking hurt you or not. You can't say your mental growth wasn't affected.
