She wasn't trying to ~take Katy down~ with the song's release, that is literally all made up conspiracy theories and fan fiction, teas of the Britney fans saying Gaga was trying to steal Britney's spotlight and destroy her in 2011 . They have their own careers, it isn't high school.
Bad Blood was a very radio friendly song, one of the more broad single worthy songs on the album, and it charted higher than the other album tracks when the album came out so why wouldn't she release it as a single? It's success proves it. She wanted to make a big music video, the fact that her famous friends are in it has literally nothing to do with Katy. No other song would have worked for the type of video she made for Bad Blood...the song is about betrayal, so she made a superhero themed video about betrayal. There is literally no mention or reference to Katy in any of it. |
I agree that you can't tell it's about Katy from the lyrics alone, but people still figured it out and Taylor knew everyone knew, and she capitalized on it.
The difference between Taylor vs Katy and Gaga vs Britney though, is that Gaga didn't write a song about Britney.
And I really don't get how putting a bunch of famous people, some of whom are close with Katy, is not trying to take her down? She's basically saying
Look at me, all of these people like me more than you!
Anyways, off the top of my head, she could have put her bad blood "squad" in the SIO video easily. That song is, like Bad Blood, about people hating Taylor.... it wouldn't be hard to have added them into that video instead of those background dancers. And if the BB video is a superhero themed video about betrayal, why does she need a whole squad? What superhero has a squad???
