Yeah, it's pretty annoying. I think they kind of liked the album though. It seems they went into the album expecting to hate it but didn't. They picked up on a few lyrics from some songs, which give credibility to their main criticism that it was 'corny'. A 7.3 from Pitchfork is VERY good though, as they can be pretty harsh.
|
And what i liked about the Pitchfork review is that it is an actual review of the album(for the most part) not of the artists persona like most reviews have become nowadays. They don't make it too taiblody by mentioning all the stuff thats happening in the artists life ,like most reviewers do nowadays.
Its almost as if most reviewers feel their reviews would be too boring if they just focused on the music and most times differentiate themselves by talking about the artists controversies and the review of the album only taking up 10% of the article, tragic.

Another case of 'I expected to hate this album but it's actually quite good, still going to give it only a 3 though'.

I love this part especially:

Still: the cumulative effect is sometimes as treacly as the heavily frosted sheet cake being slid onto the buffet table in the carpeted banquet hall where this song will be blasting, on a loop, for all of eternity. Even your most adorable aunt—the one who loves a Yankee Candle—will eventually drain her flute of sparkling wine, lean forward, and be like, "Dog, this **** is corny."

It really encapsulates how I feel about the record.

I still don't really care for Pitchfork outside of some positives, but I expected them to go in on her or just not review it at all, but SLAY.

Oh hunny, I am not a Beyoncé stan! I am a BEYONCÉ stan. Is there a base for that album?
21 is good but 25 is just average and bland to me.

I am very happy with that review, I can't really complain. They stanned for her at the end too

I'm legit shocked Pitchfork gave her that high of a score.

People thought 19 was better than 21, but critics liked 21 more, and that was before the success really kicked in. It's a matter of taste. Funny thing is, when people complain about is that she's "boring," but they tend to love the most "boring" songs from her, at least IMO. I find the "Million Years Ago" universal praise weird.

Aww, well I'm glad you agree that she's the vocalist of this generation anyway. See you around, sis.

Exactly this. People always talk about how there's filler on 21, yet when asked to name their favourite songs off of the album, they usually pick the non-singles. So where's the filler, exactly?

But, I, like you and many of her fans do NOT want Adele to stray too far from her sound. Mariah, Christina, and a few other artists did that and look what happened. Adele has played it very smart by keeping certain ballads on there and changing it up a big with Send my love, I miss you, and to some extent, river lea.
I could not be happier with this album. WWWY, hello and all I ask are all sure fire classics. Do you know how rare it is for an album to have just one classic, nevermind 3?!?
|
I think when people say there's no RITD, they mean there's no "show stopping moment" on the album like RITD or SLY was for 21.
That moment came from "Lay Me Down" for me and it's on the Target edition.

WWWY is a show-stopper in my opinion.

WWWY is one of my favorite songs by her, tbh. I don't think it packs quite the same punch that RITD had because that song felt complex in structure, but WWWY holds its own.

RITD is my favourite song ever, period. But I wasn't even wanting another RITD on this album. That's a once in a lifetime song anyway.

.... where did I say that? Your main fave is much more of an exciting vocalist anyway.
Also will people stop saying 7.3 is a high score? Anything lower than the current Metacritic average will drag the MC score down, 7.3 is decent but still lower than other pop albums from this year like EMOTION's 7.9.
