You can start your thread whenever you want to as long as it is before January 21st. Obviously , cases in which a person opened a thread by January 20th would be really, REALLY strange. However, as long as you finish it by that same day, it's okay. You don't get penalized.

What you are not allowed to do at all is to create more than a thread per Best Of.

I think it's more fun, and you get more replies. You'll see it with your eyes. In addition, comments fly like you have never seen before, haha.

However, I prefer seeing a countdown starting late but being finished rather than seeing a countdown starting very early but not being finished. Consistency is the key.
