It's not hard. If the gross matches the budget, you break even and strat making profit.

Sure, we don't know how much they spent on advertising the movie but assuming it was more than 8 million dollars, we can say it has still not made back its budget and still not made a profit. Therefor you cannot call it a commercial hit.

And again: I AM NOT CALLING BURLESQUE A FLOP! But right now it's not a hit either.

Sure, it's not a 'hit' per se, but it
is having success. It already has made 63 million dollars worldwide and there's still more than 30 countries (I believe) to be released in. It has surpassed MANY people's expectations, and that's why we, fans, are so happy with these numbers. Because they are great. And just to think that those numbers will increase EVEN more is very satisfying to hear.
I really understand what you are trying to say, and I know you don't dislike Christina judging by your previous posts, but many movies don't make back their budget only by what they gross on the boxoffice. Like SwagLikeALegend said, there's products that they're selling as well, like that make-up stuff, that apparently, from what I've read, are being quite a success too. And then, there will be the movie release, its sales and rents, so I'm pretty sure it will be a big profit for the studio.
