Hello to all the contestants. 15 of you remain. Round 8 Results are here. Each team's scores will be posted along with the commentary. The next post will have the actual results and ranks of each team just like last round as well as your total averages throughout the game so far will be present.
Now on to results...
1. Ethan - Sugarland - Joey
Quote:
Ray – 9 – Jennifer is clearly dealing with the issues left before Joey left. She really feels bad and awknowledges what things should’ve done in the past to make everything better with him. Nice entry and Jennifer Nettles’ voice on this one is very soothing and fitting with the theme.
Quote:
Anna - 7 - I like this, it's a different perspective and I also like how the song is sentimental but not too overly emotional. It still has some kind of an upbeat vibe and almost invites you to sing along. Her voice is also great to listen to, with that slight rasp it's definitely unique and able to catch your attention. Nice.
Quote:
Zaid - 6.5 - I was okay with the verses but as soon as that chorus kicked, I cringed. It's not a bad chocie, but it's not a great one either.
2. DanceForYou - Miranda Lambert - Over You
Quote:
Ray – 10 – Such a safe choice, I can’t at Dylan not using this as the example song because this was such an obvious entry, and by these standards, this is also an obvious 10.
Quote:
Anna - 6 - It's nice. I feel like it's a really sweet way of honoring Blake's brother, the way the lyrics are reminiscing about him and she also sings it with a touching amount of emotion. But like several of the submissions this round, I don't find it particularly exciting on the musical side, it's nothing out of the ordinary that would make me stop and think, wow, this song is awesome.
Quote:
Zaid - 9.5 - Miranda is clearly struggling with her boo leaving her and that was exactly what Dillon asked this round. She's playing his favorite records to feel better, I guess that's one way to deal with it.
3. Medosuxx - Lana Del Rey - Dark Paradise
Quote:
Ray – 10 – In my honest opinion, the best entry this round, just because of Lana’s deep lyrics within the song. “I'm scared that you won't be waiting on the other side” gets me everytime.
Quote:
Anna - 10 - I love this song so much. It has always fascinated me, the imagery of the ocean and being haunted, the tragic and emotions you can hear in her voice, the way the music reflects the darkness of the lyrics and creates a unique mood. It's perfect.
Quote:
Zaid - 8 - Well done medo, I love this choice. Poor Lana can't get over him. He's always popping in her head. Gurl gotta move on.
4. Stevie - Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Quote:
Ray – 10 – This is such a good entry, specially when Amy’s singing this, it sounds so haunting you can feel the realness of her lyrics on this one. Excellent.
Quote:
Anna - 3 - Oh Stevie, this is so difficult. I love Amy and I think this is one of her most amazing songs, but it does not fit this round. We wanted songs about someone dying, and not just losing them because the relationship is over. I know the video is a funeral but that was the funeral for Amy's heart, not her partner.
Quote:
Zaid - 10 - Whether she's entering a state of depression or going back to using, the end of this relationship definitely hit Amy hard and she's struggling big times with it. Love this choice, my favorite from the bunch.
5. Killer Queen - Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven
Quote:
Ray – 9 – Such a good entry, but such a sad song overall. Very meaningful and deep lyrics that deal with what’ll happen once we get to heaven, and if we’ll be able to see our loved ones there. Haven’t heard the song before, I liked it very much KQ.
Quote:
Anna - 10 - This kinda goes without words.. an amazing song that goes straight to the heart of whoever listens to it. Beautiful instrumental and lyrics, and you can literally feel his pain when he sings. It's a classic but for some reason I didn't really have it on the radar for this round, so I wouldn't say it's predictable. Great choice.
Quote:
Zaid - 8.5 - This was very touching especially after reading the story behind it Good job!
1. potentbreakupsong - Grace Potter & the Nocturnals - Stars
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - Let me tell you something. I listened to all the songs once before I judged any song. I then listed what songs I could remember after listening to them all. You as well as a few others were the only ones. The others just fell flat in comparison. Basically, I enjoyed your entry and that's all you need to know. There's an emotion to it that I really like.
Quote:
Anna - 8 - Apparently it's not completely about someone dying, but I think it can definitely be interpreted that way. I like the lyrics, and how the song is kind of a pop rock hybrid. The piano is beautiful and the guitar solo fits right in, giving it more of an edge and making things interesting. I can also hear the emotion in her voice.
Quote:
Zaid - 7 - This doesn't really stand out against some of the other choices. I mean yeah we get it she can't look at the stars, he's far gone blah blah.
2. t.A.T.u. - Jo Dee Messina - Heaven Was Needing A Hero
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - I'm a little puzzled by the other rates for this song. It was one of my favorites this round. The whole heaven part of the song obviously goes hand in hand with death.
Quote:
Anna - 6 - It's nice, but from the instrumental and the tone of her voice she could be singing about anything. It's just a bit too calm and not very captivating to the listener. I was underwhelmed by it.
Quote:
Zaid - 7 - It's not a bad choice for this round. But I didn't really get how she was dealing with this death. She was just saying heaven needed a hero.
3. MWB - Taylor Swift - Ronan
Quote:
Dylan - 7.5 - It's a cute song. It fits the theme. It just didn't really stand out from the bunch as well as some other entries. Like I said, average scores were given to good entries this round as a way of rewarding those who really broke through the barrier.
Quote:
Anna - 7 - This is such a moving song, and I like the different approach because it's for charity and about a chlid who passed away and co-written by his mom and all. Musically, it's your typical ballad though, so nothing risky or new.
Quote:
Zaid - 8.5 - This is such a sad song It had me in tears when she sings "you were my best four years". Well done!
4. Middle of Selena - Evanescence - My Immortal
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - This one is pretty typical. It's miles better than what you were planning on sending in. That would have been a tragedy. But as I was saying, this one is typical but it's one of my favorites so you get an extra point for that.
Quote:
Anna - 9 - One of the modern classics I'd say, it's a great song even though it was never one of my favorite Evanescence songs. I love Amy's vocals here, she sounds so vulnerable yet strong at the same time, and the lyrics are of typical Evanescence quality.
Quote:
Zaid - 9 - I love this song and fits very well for this round. Her pain is shown in the lyrics "these wounds won't seem to heal". Good job.
1. Monk - Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men - One Sweet Day
Quote:
Dylan - 7 - It fits. It's just really typical. So many people really went outside the comfort zone and you just stayed in the safe zone.
Quote:
Ray – 10 – A classic song is a classic song. No arguing in here, this is an easy 10 Monk. Way better than your past round.
Quote:
Zaid - 8 - This choice is a little bit different from the rest as they are looking to the day they will encounter in heaven again. Good choice.
2. DripDrip - P Diddy & Faith Evans - I'll Be Missing You
Quote:
Dylan - 9.5 - You were my favorite by far this round. The sample use makes you stand out. It wasn't something I expected and it was actually made for Notorious B.I.G. who we all know was murdered so there's no debate about whether it can be interpreteed differently. There's even a line I recall about heaven once again indicating death.
Quote:
Ray – 9 – One of the entries I thought when the round was announced, I really love this song as it’s very endearing and meaningful. An improvement over your past messy rounds FlopFlop. Nice entry.
Quote:
Zaid - 9.5 - Great choice. I really have nothing to say about this. The lyrics speak for themselves.
3. TheSeenScene - Natalia Kills - Heaven
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - I think you were one of 3 to send this song. It's not my favorite but it has direct references to heaven and missing the person which is the whole jist of this round. Good choice.
Quote:
Ray – 8 – “I know heaven must be beautiful right now, Since they got you babe”. That line alone fits the theme. Nice job Seen.
Quote:
Zaid - 9 - "i would trade 1000 pictures for one word" that line doee, I used to stan for this song when it came out. Great choice!!
4. Collin - Ke$ha - The Harold Song
Quote:
Dylan - 1.5 - The thing that confuses me the most is that you're porbably the biggest stan of Ke$ha i've come across. She's stated multiple times he's still alive and that's something a stan would know. Even I know that and I've never really looked into her personal life too much. You said the "young love murder" line could represent death but obviously not. The specificness of the song and the fact that there's evidence it's not about death hurt you this round. I really like the song so I'll give you an extra half point for that.
Quote:
Ray – 8 – I love how refreshing this entry is over the bunch. I found other entries more meaningful and deep, but THS also works specially because of the love Ke$ha seemed to have over her deceased fiancé.
Quote:
Zaid - 8 - This song is actually good . "I would give it all up to not be sleeping alone" pretty much sums up the pain she's in that he's not with her now.
1. Lippy - A Fine Frenzy - Almost Lover
Quote:
Dylan - 5.5 - I think it's mainly about a failed relationship so it's a bit of a reach to say it's about death. Sure, it coul be about death if we choose to interpret it that way. It just would have been a much better choice to choose a song that was for sure about death instead of open to interpretation. I freakin love the song though.
Quote:
Ray – 2.5 – Lippy, just for you to know, I’m obsessed with this song since I was vacationing in Europe when this was released and it was everywhere back there. Anyways, I adore this song for how deep and meaningful this is, but I’m not very sure this is talking over the death of someone, I find this more like, an “almost lover” situation over someone who was there, but then left, not because of death specifically. It may be because of death, but it never specifies it in the lyrics.
Quote:
Anna - 3 - This is a sad, beautiful song, but it's about a relationship that ended or never even happened unlike the singer hoped. We were looking for a song about losing someone as in that person dying.
2. Kavish - Shinedown - The Crow & the Butterfly
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - There's nothing wrong with the entry. It fits the theme. Just like Ronan, it fails to stand out against the rest of the pack which is the reason it's one of my lower "good" entries. But as you can see, you still got a decent score from me so it's nothing to worry about.
Quote:
Ray – 8 – I loved the metaphors in the song, for real. The “just a little too late” bit at the end is really haunting and sad. Great job Kav.
Quote:
Anna - 7 - I like that you chose a rock song, you must have been happy to have the opportunity to use something like this. I like the metaphor of the Crow and the Butterfly, it's a nice image, and from what I gathered the song is about a mother losing her son. I was just a bit disappointed by the song itself, it didn't really stand out to me as something other than your average rock song musically, although it wasn't bad.
All your scores have been revealed. Now you will find your name ranked among your team by your individual average. However, team averages decide who is in jeopardy. However, the top scorer from each team is immune if their team goes to Tribal (the name of that contestant will be bold). The bottom two average scoring teams will be in jeopardy. The 2nd highest averaging team will be safe. The highest averaging team's judge will choose between the bottom two to decide who goes to Tribal Council where they will vote one member of their team off the Island.
In addition, you will now see how far you fell or rose on both leader boards indicated by + or - followed by a number.
The team who will be deciding which team goes to Tribal Council is...
Average: 8.433
2nd Place & safe...
Average: 8 (no rounding)
Which means the Two Teams in Jeopardy are...
Average: 7.958 (rounds to 8 but without rounding is lower than Team Ray's solid 8)
&
Average: 5.667
I will get back to you with my decision as soon as I decide. Once that decision is made, I will make an announcement and we will go into our 8th Tribal Council where one of you will leave the Island. Congratulations to the two safe teams (Dylan & Ray). If Team Zaid is chosen, there will be no Tribal and Lippy will be leaving automatically.
I'm glad My Immortal did great .. Good job, MoS
I knew that song would do good, and it was the first song that came to mind when I read this challenge.
But I'm still glad I didn't choose something from Ev.
I'm content with my scores
It's time to announce which team will be going to tribal. I have come to a decision and that team is...
Congratulations Team Zaid. You will not be going to Tribal because Team Anna hasn't gone since the Team Twist so I think it's only fair. Lippy, consider yourself lucky. My decision was not to save Lippy but to send whatever team had not been to Tribal since the twist. Team Anna will be going to Tribal. One of you will be leaving the Island 10th. Remember, DripDrip is immune. The rest of you have a 1/3 chance of leaving. Get to discussing because one of you 3 will be leaving.
