Pearl could have been a single, actually. It has a similar message to Firework, it's just more specific about someone instead of everyone, therefore not as generic and "for the masses". Plus it has infinitely better imagery. The metaphors in this song are spot on.
Wait @ Pearl being better than every midtempo and ballad on PRISM sans This Moment and maybe By The Grace of God. IDK why I've never stanned for Pearl this much.
Also Peacock is a bop but Pearl is a lyrical masterpiece so I think I prefer Pearl. I always looked over it as maybe my second least favourite song from the album but it's probably in my Top 10 (including TCC songs).
After The One That Got Away flopped () she really had nothing to lose, she should have just released the rest of the songs as singles and seen if anything stuck. The worst that could happen is they all flopped, then we'd just use the "promo single!" trick.
1. The One That Got Away
2. Teenage Dream
3. California Gurls
4. Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)
5. Wide Awake
6. E.T.
7. Pearl
8. Hummingbird Heartbeat
9. Peacock
10. Dressin' Up
11. Firework
12. Part Of Me
13. Circle The Drain
14. Not Like The Movies
...
15. Who Am I Living For?
It feels so wrong, almost a crime putting NLTM so low because I actually quite like it. I love all of the songs on Teenage Dream... except that pop cancer. Milk Milk Lemonade would have even been better.

Your top 3 is flawless if I pretend PoM isn't on your rankings. After that its so so
Sam you're so right. Pearl's metaphors are perfect.
Katy actually has a great vocabulary as a writer. She knows how to create a mood lyrically that is distinct and unique to every song. And it.works perfectly for.pop music. Her lyrics really aren't generic at all. Except for Roar. Ew
Pearl is great. I love Pearl. I like it more than Firework. Pearl is probably tied with Hummingbird Heartbeat imo. That's the real underrated song on TD. Pearl.

After showing KP The Movie to my friend yesterday, I put all Katy albums on my Itunes library. OOTB remains as my favourite 'cause I basically listened to it when school was painful back in the day and it contains so many emotions and memories. Plus I loved her musical style.
TD is a flawless hit song record (E.T. as the best pop song ever and HH >>>>>)
Prism has still to grow on me. It's nice but right now it doesn't do much for me. But I'll make sure to listen to it more often.

Totally. In Katy's defence you could tell that she felt a lot of pressure to essentially make TD 2.0 success with the lead single of her next album, and instead of taking a risk, she went the safest route possible in order to make it as relatable as possible.
But when you think about it, it's kind of an art in itself to use that many common metaphors / sayings / idioms / cliches and still make a pretty good hit pop song. Plus, her vocals on Roar (especially towards the end) are some of the best on PRISM.
KATY PERRY: GREATEST HITS
1. This Is How We Do (feat. Riff Raff)
2. Birthday
3. Sex Sells
4. Peacock
5. Dark Horse (feat. Pitbull)
6. Milk Milk Lemonade
7. International Smile
8. E.T. (feat. Tinie Tempah)
9. Last Friday Night (feat. Missy Elliott)
10. The One That Got Away (feat. B.o.b.)
I wasn't aware of the TIHWD hate. The video is a smash and visually appealing to enlighten anyone who watches the video to enjoy the song much more. At least it did so for me
