anyway. some of you seem to think I was biased judging 1D, let me explain my score.
first of all, this round, I didn't know most of the artists, so I was hearing these songs for the first time and rates are mainly based on my first impression: if the song caught my attention, how I felt about it, if there was anything remarkable that I thought stood out about it etc. I also looked at the lyrics, the way it was sang, and how different/unique it was, things like that. my main criterion was the quality of the song, not how well it sold or what chart peak it reached.
I know WMYB was a big success and hit but for me, that doesn't automatically make it a good song. like I said in my comment, I found it overly cheesy and too generic. it has bad lyrics, it could have been done by any boyband, and their interpretation of it didn't make it any more special, either. I don't have anything against boybands, but compared to BSB and NSYNC, One Direction are nowhere near their level imo.
it's not like I didn't give low scores to others.. there were a lot of 4s because I thought those songs were boring/uninteresting, but at least they were still listenable. I took off 2 points from WMYB because I really disliked the song, yeah. I don't think that's very unfair. unfair would have been if I hadn't even bothered to listen because it's 1D, let me know if you want me to rate like that from now on, it'll save me a lot of time.
