My favorite song of all time...it no doubt has to be "Boy Like You" by Kesha. For those who may not know, Kesha is above and beyond my favorite artist, and this song plays a major factor as to why. It may come off to people as just a run-of-the-mill electronic pop song with no deep meaning,
but I don't really think it's up to the song to be littered with meaning to be meaningful, but rather, it's up to the listener to decide what makes a song special to them.
To me, this song is energy, it's happiness, it's a tongue-in-cheek type of innocence that I like to incorporate into the songs I make myself. I get a magical sort of buzz that anyone would get when they listen to their favorite song. It's thanks to Kesha, with a huge role played by this song, that I started to write songs of my own, and even started producing them, with the hopes that someday, I can make someone, somewhere, feel that same magical, whimsical feeling I got when I heard "Boy Like You", and maybe even continue the cycle of starry-eyed dreamers with the same ambition.

My Cheesy Entry
The song I chose for this challenge is Super Bass by Nicki Minaj.
Although we were supposed to pick our 'favorite song of all time' I have to say that this is not my favorite song per se for the simple fact that I don't really have one. It is simply just one of the few songs that I love the most. But there is a reason why I chose this particular song over some other contenders for this.
But let me start off by telling you guys why I like this song so much. Honestly, there isn't much to it, I mean it is just such an effortlessly great song and as a whole super catchy. It has great verses and such a cute chorus and I don't think there will ever be Nicki song I like more.
But anyway, I am just going to tell you the reason why I chose this song. It was back in either December 2011 or January 2012 (not so sure right now) when I first heard this song on TV (They only used a small portion of the song in a commercial). I wasn't much into music at that time. I occasionally listened to the radio and had a few songs on my iPod, but that was about it.
After the commercial was done, I jumped on YouTube and searched for Super Bass to listen to it. I instantly fell in love, not only with the song but also with the person singing it. I started to google Nicki to find out more about her and started to become obsessed which previously never happened to me with a music artist. I used that as an opportunity to also get into other artists, new ones as well as artists that I was already a fan of (well of the singles I knew ). This led up to me finding ATRL in summer 2012. At first I only lurked a bit and only viewed certain threads, but as I explored it more I noticed that it is full of people like me. I wanted to join so badly (I obviously was only able to do that months later) because I thought i found a place somewhat safe. Somewhere where i could be myself and talk to people.
You need to know that i was super shy, kinda socially awkward and closeted (still am for the most part but it doesn't depress me anymore) and i felt like i had no one to talk to or share my problems.
Long story short: I think without the song i would have never found this place (or be into music and pop culture) and possibly still alone with my thoughts. So yeah ..
Tbh scratch what i said in the beginning. This may not be my favorite song just for the song itself but honestly this is my favorite song for the backstory alone.

Bad Romance
This may seem a bit ammature, however my favorite song of all time is Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. This song defined my teenage years, it helped me discover my favorite artist (Gaga), helped me come to terms with my sexuality, and really helped me get through some rough times that I had to endure. Without this song I don't think i'd be who I am today. During the time of it's release, my freshman year, I had been picked on for being gay. Constantly teased, I was so young, I had no idea I was gay. It was so hard knowing people looked down on me for being who I am, something I can't control. Really a low point in my life, but discovering Gaga, and more importantly this song helped me get through this time of my life. It made everything easier, and made me happier. The triumphant ending, that final chorus literally gets me every time. It made me feel stronger, that I knew I could run any obstacle that comes my way. It opened up so many doors for me, made me feel powerful, and that no matter what comes my way, I can fight it. To be honest, sometimes I wonder if I would even be alive today without getting into Gaga. I've gone through so many difficult times, and gaga's music has always made me feel better, and I can never forget the song that introduced me to her.
Iconic in every sense of the word. The lyrics, the video, the vocals. The chorus is so catchable, it reels you in. Hypnotic, crazy, and funky. My favorite song of all time..

You Belong With Me
So, this is my favorite song of all time. I know the song isn't the best song of all time, or the most unique song of all time, I know it's a catchy and simple pop country song, but it's my favorite one. I have to say that when I heard the song for the first time, I liked it, but I thought it was nothing special. I started loving it after some events happened. This is my favorite song now because of some reasons. The first reason is that I can relate to it very much (changing the genders and some things, ofc), but other than that, the lyrics describe what I've been doing/thinking for a year now or so. I've been best friends with this girl since we were 3, and the last year I started getting a crush on her... till I fell in love. But she had a boyfriend, so it was just a terrible feeling. They had arguments very often, and I was just there thinking... "why can't you see... you belong with me!" Then they broke up, and after I told her about my feelings, she started to flirt with other guys, and I was just there thinking... "you belong with me".
The second reason is that it's by my favorite artist, Taylor Swift, so it just makes the song better.
The third reason, is that it's a pop country song, very catchy, with a nice, not over-produced production. I could listen to this song on repeat forever.
And the fourth, and last reason, is that everytime I play this song, it cheers me up. It lifts me up inside. It's happiness in a song form.

"Spice Up Your Life" is a song that has been with me practically since the day I was born. There isn't a particular moment in time when I registered the song as being my favourite, nor are there any distinct periods in my life that this song transports me to when I listen to it. "Spice Up Your Life" has just.. always been there. It's always been that song that I knew I could listen to and that it would bring me bliss, regardless of my current situation. This song makes me feel proud to be myself, even when others tell me that who I am and what I do is wrong. Not through cheesy methods that pry on insecurities and harness labels- but in a very open, and authentic way. It's happy, fun, carefree, proud, crazy, festive, imaginative and FREE - all the things that the Spice Girls represented, wrapped in one incredible song. Even without the fond childhood memories, "Spice Up Your Life" would still be my chosen song for those very reasons- it's my favourite girls in their most pure and free form, and when I listen to this song, I too am in my most genuine and free form; and that's what 'spicing up your life' is all about!

The One That Got Away
Let me make sure to give you a full view of this video as opposed to just a music player because of how good this video is. I was told to choose a different song in the plug.dj to pander for votes, but I decided to stay true to the challenge and true to myself and pick what I think is the best song of all time. This has been my favorite song since I heard it in late 2010 for the first time. It was at a major time of change for me right as I was beginning to discover the world of music (and gheys of course, I just didn't know that yet). It upgraded me from a Katy Perry fan to a stan. I would brag on and on about the song and eventually got a stan twitter to brag about it even more. When it was finally announced as the final single from Teenage Dream I was ecstatic and played the song over 400 times the week the music video came out, a feat yet to be matched by any other song in my collection. As I have grown the song has grown with me. It has been featured in various avis and sigs of mine over time and I have covered and played it over and over as my own music talents have increased. It's the perfect song. Even behind the heavy but somber drum beats you can hear Katy's pain in her trembling voice and loss in her falsetto. The music video is Katy's best just as the song is. And it's ability to sell millions of copies and peak in the top 3 even as a 6th single is astounding. I strive for nothing less than perfection, and perfection is exactly what this song is.
Bet you were expecting a Brandy song, right? Welp, for once I am going to set aside my shameless Brandy & Two Eleven promo, though I guess I'm technically doing it right now (Buy it if you don't have it, Hihi) Anyway, my favorite song of all time would have to be Family Affair by Mary J. Blige, from her triple platinum smash 5th album, No More Drama. Everything about the song is literally perfect. It's by far the best song that has been produced by Dr. Dre. The beat is almost infectious as it makes you wanna dance & pulls you in immediately. The aggressive beat Knocks & goes perfectly with the commands Mary is giving you in the chorus & throughout the rest of the song. Beat aside, I LOVE the message of Family Affair. Mary is telling you to put your drama aside & to love one another, if only for one night. It promotes positivity & good vibes, which is what I'm all about when I'm not being a shady bitch. The message of the song is even more genuine & inspiring to me because it came at around a time where Mary had nearly reached her breaking point & she was definitely at the lowest in her life. She was tired of fighting her demons. This song was like a testimony of sorts, It showed that Mary had triumphed & it was as if she was telling us to do the same with the lyrics and song. This song will always remind me to stay positive & it was a prominent part of my childhood
Also, the video slays, but that's a different story for a different day
This is my favorite all-time song because I grew up living and breathing Janet - mostly through my mother and aunt. Escapade instantly became my personal favorite when my mom purchased the cassette tape and played it constantly. At the tender age of five, the infectious melody became glued to my memories. I fell in love more with the production than the words, but I grew to love/appreciate the lyrics as I got older. This song, for me, perfectly encapsulates a realm of happiness and care-free fun between two partners, friends, family members, etc. "My mind's tired, I've worked so hard all week. I cashed my check, I'm ready to go. I promise you I'll show you such a good time," gleefully sings Janet in the first pre-chorus. In an overall sense, this song takes me back to a point of my life where things were, indeed, care-free and worry-free. This is easily one of my go-to tracks when I need to be put in a great mood.
I have a few songs amongst my all-time favorites like Greatest Love of All, In The End, Hey Ya! and Hips Don't Lie and Gaga's first real misstep on the charts stands right there with them. Each of them has a special place in my heart but I decided to go with Marry The Night because it's the most recent one and I feel like it allows me to explain my preference with more clarity. I noticed how important it was to me sometime between the end of 2012 and beginning of 2013 and those months coincided with my first months of university. I was afraid to start over, to leave my family, my friends, the all-so-familiar high-school and to move in a new city all alone with no one I knew but this amazing song helped me tons throughout it. Of course, I didn't relate directly to its "love of the nightlife and New York" lyrics but, somehow, I could find it hugely uplifting. It's like Gaga fights her struggles and fears and manages to overcome them and this personal interpretation I made of it injected into me a lot of enthusiasm to face everything I didn't want to. When you listen to a track that gives you this kind of feeling, you just know sometime earlier it slowly insinuated in the lines of your favorite songs ever.
Right off the bat, its massive beats and blaring fanfare pummel everything in its path like a brutal force of nature, leaving us all with a clear choice to either turn away or submit to its indomitable power. It's rather fitting that this sound would eventually become the foundation to Beyoncé’s career, as it is the ideal showcase for the Titan’s forthright persona and her gift for vocal performances that manage an improbable balance of poised professionalism and feral emoting. The track’s horn-driven hook initially caught my attention when I went on vacation overseas (what kind of global phenomenon) in the summer of 2003 & continues to slay my entire existence almost a decade later. The thought of someone having that much control over your life because of a sensation you feel whenever you’re around them sounded like a foreign concept to me at the time. Our culture didn’t necessarily glamorize love, I was raised with the idea that it was more of a delicacy reserved for your close family members, so the thought of some complete stranger slowly cultivating that emotion within you, piqued my interest. However, my parents’ relationship was not healthy by any means, add onto the fact that I was introverted as a child & only “witnessed love” through their carefully crafted glasses, one could understand why it wasn't the most appealing idea in the world to me at the time. I began to detest it, If love was waking up every day to arguments & fights over how miserable your life is, I wanted nothing to do with it. Yet whenever I heard this song, I envisioned something completely different, & for a while I wasn't sure if it was just some fictional emotion I created to help cope with the situation at home or if it was tangible. I yearned for it, and eventually the more I heard the song, the more it became clear to me, there’s no way someone could be that avid & passionate about love if it was fictional.

In a word, evocative.
That's what draws me so much to this song. As a visual person this song is just some extreme auditory gay ****. There's such a strong sense of duality in it's minimal yet full sound, that the things that come to mind are so different.
My first and main read involves death. A very idealized, drug induced painless death. Listening to this song (and it's heart monitor like background elements) and feeling that last moment before someone gives in.
Another is a new beginning, the mellow barely there production presenting a new chance at life. The moment before someone decides to go for a risk.
Lovers giving into one another.
Someone giving up on life, running from their stress and into a slew of drugs.
Or simply the tide moving a vessel out at sea.
The fact that a barely there song with so few words,
and an ambient sound can do that, is just so
striking to me.

Challenge #2: The Favorite Song
Where do I even begin? I love everything about this song. From its atmospheric, vibrant production to the ethereal, harmonious vocals it's the closest I've heard to a perfect song. The way those calm verses lead up and then explode to that massive euphoric chorus is simply phenomenal, and that's where the sheer brilliance lies. The contrasts truly bring out the best in each individual element and elevate the song to a whole new level, making it as captivating as it is. Before you know it, you're lost in the song.
Sonically, "Better in the Dark" is not your typical Say Lou Lou, which makes it instantly stand out to me. Contrary to their characteristic, dreamy and deeply melancholic sound, this record is actually quite uplifting and full of soaring optimism - something my inner pessimist has come to appreciate in music. In a way, the track serves as a mood switcher for me, a quick escape from the gloomy reality whenever needed. Only adding to that connection is the glorification of the dark in the lyrics. I have always been more or less an introvert, finding comfort in the darkness when I don't have to be concerned about anything around me. That sense of peace and liberation, with a touch of mystique, is why it, indeed, feels better in the dark.
My background pic looks too big so let me post it again.
