Her team is such a mess. Why did they throw everything out all at once? Why couldn't they spread it out and give the song its legs to grow? I'm disappointed. I mean, they did good for #Beautiful (except for the video) but everything is a mess with this single release.

tbh, people want to hear Mariah-sized vocals. This song is too minimal (minus the last note) to get the attention of the general public. #Beautiful was a great display of her voice on a really contemporary sounding track. I, for the life of me, do not know why that did not positively SMASH last summer - it was perfect. There were so many awful songs that went the distance, but this deserved so much better. #Beautiful > You're Mine, easily.

I played it with my best friend without saying anything, just to see what she would say about it. She usually likes most of Mariah's music but is not a fan of anyone in particular, she is just loves music in general so I usually trust her feedback. Mid song she was like "is that Mariah?" and I was like yeah, and she says "is this new?" I was like yeah, why, you like it? and she says "its OK but sounds dated, nothing really pulls you in" I'm sure that's the same feeling of the general public. Hope she puts out a song next like "Migrate" or just something hard & edgy like "Heat" and then a good video (like Shake it off) I think that will get her noticed again.

well her label IS a mess and does not know what to do with her. That being said her label is not at fault with this single and its dismal performance.

My post was a respons to a post about the song being totally lost on ITunes - and the label, as messy it may be, has no fault in that. There are flop singles with less promo and a much smaller launch that still were at least top100, 200, 500 - HELL - at least top1500!! during month 1!
The label and Mariah clearly don't share vision about her career, we`ve seen that in the two last eras. But they sure gave this single a good launch - as they did give #B a good launch. This song - as much as I like it - is not on par with #B and it's stagnation with everything Mariah has been doing the last yeas. It's not fresh.
Sorry, guys, I usually don't like acting like a know what's right or wrong when it comes to promotion, music and marketing - BUT I just can't have anymore whining about the ****ing label when a Mariah single flops. That's like the last straw. people, get real.
I love Mariah to death and will always support her and her music. But in times like right now support CAN'T mean acting like it's all the label's fault when they gave her a hell of a launch.

Erm.
YES. They should've spread out some of the things like the remix. They should've made the video a good one and release it few days after, make Mariah perform it on several shows, besides BET.
The launch was good but they should've prepared for several shows for the weeks to come instead of throwing everything out all on the same very day. They could've done a little better imo.

Now yeah they might have done that but who knows where the song had peaked then? Had it peaked top30 on ITunes, fallen out of top300 a few days after, climbed back to top200 after the remix, fallen back out of top500, climbed back after the video, fallen back out of top700....etc...etc....
No, guys, she had promo and a good launch. The material did not work.
She now has a video, a remix, a remix video, interview, radio interview, 9 million audience impressions, even top50 on POP radio, had a performance (which shot it up to the top600!?).

I actually agree with everything you said... but I do think the label is just part of the problem. Her entire team, her included, JD, etc really have no idea what they are doing. They think re-creating the same "Mariah sound" over and over something will eventually stick but the public has moved on and Mariah needs to change direction. She can't sell 'Hero' type songs anymore because she cannot sing like that anymore. She can't sell WBT type songs anymore because she has oversaturated them and everyone is sick of those from her. She needs a totally organic new sound that suits her current vocal and for the love of God Mariah lose some weight, appearance is important.

Exactly. The label hould push her - as hard as it sounds. Maybe she needs to be dropped in order to give it her all again.

Or at least put on some clothes. Aretha Franklin smashed when she was heavier (scoring a number one hit in 1986) but she wasn't half naked looking desperate for attention. I love you Mimi but it's time to be age appropriate. You are an elder stateswoman now, not a young pop tart.

Great music and promotion, as well as an entire revamp of her image. They SOLD her to the world and even gave her a new persona aka MIMI!
To me, if I listen to most people who are not die hard fans, she comes across as being too self involved and it takes away from her music. Put the massive cleavage away, make quality videos that are not just her in a bikini or naked, showing off her breasts. It just turns off the GP and makes them care even less about her and her music. She just needs to focus on the material and promote it more.
Also, she needs a single that comes HARD. She needs to put out a song that makes people HEAR her again, not just copying a formula that obviously is not working any longer. I love Mariah but she really needs a new team of people around her to help guide her a bit more because she is to lost in her own world to see whats going on musically right now.

I couldn't agree more, though.
I'm mad at her team and her label but at herself, too. She posted like dozens of pictures of dem babies but took like three days to promote "You're Mine". I get it, she's a mother and yet, why isn't she doing late night shows or whatever?
This is getting so frustrating.

I feel like Beautiful was something of a new sound for her. I really enjoyed that song's originality. I don't think the public is here for someone who has been in it as long as Mariah has been unfortunately. I just hope she gives us that album because it's been so long and I think she should just be fine with pleasing her fans.

... that would be if she was pleasing her fans lol.
sadly most of her real fanbase jumped ship around Rainbow era and only got onboard for TEOM before bailing again.

Why did JD pick the single? He's literally been irrelevant since 2005.
And Trey Songz? If you're gonna do THAT then your song better be progressive cuz he is very 2010.
Mimi simply needs to hang it up as a mainstream artist if she has nothing else to offer creatively.
