Umm, what? She worked with Hilary Lindsey for like one song of course there's a song with country undertones But surely, it's not all of them. I hear it's a mix of stuff which is good.

I'm willing to bet it's not country, but rather just instrumental-based (Mark doesn't like overproduced songs, at all.) People aren't exactly going to reference jazz, blues, soft rock, punk when none of those genres have been relevant for decades.
Think about the amount of times an artist has actually featured a REAL instrument in their music and not a computer. Eek.
ANother point she really drove home: the rest of the album was really made from scratch. She explained the writing process for every song, Perfect Illusion seems to be the only one that was reconstructed from a previously made track. I can tell you there are much better songs on the album.
