What Lady Gaga wants more than anything is to be taken seriously and remembered as a real artist. She's even given up her commercial appeal for it. But there's this air of inauthenticity around her attempts to be a shocking, scandalous, polarizing artist. It comes off as immature and you can still see the girl underneath trying very hard.
You can tell she used her endless resources to look up the #1 paid living artist (Jeff Koonz) and the #1 performance artist (Marina Abramovic) and asked them to design her album cover and work with her. It's like she wants to be taken seriously through association with them. But like her constantly reminders that what she's doing is ART, it never quite comes together.
