People have never really taken Lady Gaga seriously. Ever.
There's really not much damage she can do in the US. I find it hard to believe the general public ever
loved Gaga.
Shes been a one-hit wonder with Just Dance, then a barbie annoying pop tart through LoveGame that turned off adult audiences, then she was a weirdo that tried too hard during TFM with stupid lyrics (Alejandro), and now she's just taken the weirdness to an extreme (BTW)/is some satanist psycho.
And as a few people pointed out, international perception isn't impacted as easily because she's not as in-your-face abroad. She's probably just viewed as plain weird in other countries, but not much more. They have their own stars.
The problem with BTW is overexposure more than anything.
