While I agree with wanting a very liberal justice to be appointed, it's still a risk. Hillary isn't a guarantee yet. Kasich could challenge her if there's a brokered convention and the GOP gets behind him - or Romney, since at a contested convention that's entirely possible. She'd crush Cruz, but Trump is a strange beast with pretty unpredictable appeal - he could actually very narrowly win, or get crushed in a massive landslide.
Plus, Merrick is such a good man and I can't help but feel for him after watching him actually get emotional during his speech. He doesn't deserve to end up just a political pawn, and he's one of the most qualified men out there for the job.
