So the reason why Donovan never came back is that he accepted that Countess didn't love him like that and he was willing to die if that made her happy, so that cleared him from returning.

Yeah I guess that makes sense. But still it's a stretch. Literally Every other person in MH and H who died in the respective location came back as a ghost, so why wouldn't he? You can argue he had "no unfinished business," but I think the writers probably just overlooked this or whatever
