Katy Perry becomes a 'Part' of the Hot 100 Summit for a 7th Time
Charged by a fiery, icy performance at the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony as what many believed was a subliminal message to her soon-to-be-ex husband, Russell Brand, Katy Perry sends a 'Part' of her continuous string of pop hits to #1 on the Hot 100. 'Part' is the 20th song in Billboard history to have opened at the summit. The last song to achieve this feat was Lady Gaga's () 'Born This Way,' exactly one year ago. The spur to the summit is largely due to a massive first-week sales of 405,000 downloads sold and 30 million audience impression points, replacing Kelly Clarkson's 'Stronger' 1-3 (or 4 ); thus, Perry's new release became the biggest beneficary due to the large viewing audience of the GRAMMY Awards ceremony. 'Part' becomes Perry's highest-debuting single on the survey, besting 'Gurls,' which bowed in at No. 2 in May 2010 with 294,000 downloads sold in the first week of sales. As previously noted, Perry and Jackson shall remain co-holders of their record for five #1 singles from an album, as 'Part' is considered to be a lead single from the extensive rerelease of 'Dream' entitled 'The Complete Confection' (due in stores on Mar 27).
This marks Perry's 7th trip to the Hot 100 summit, as she has previously held the highest position with 6 other songs -- 'I Kissed a Girl' (7 consecutive weeks), 'California Gurls (f. Snoop Dogg)', (6 consecutive weeks), 'Teenage Dream' (2 consecutive weeks), 'Firework' (4 non-consecutive weeks, 'E.T. (f. Kanye West)' (5 non-consecutive weeks), and 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' (2 consecutive weeks). As she is no stranger to the top ten on the survey, Perry also has 3 other songs that were in the running of becoming number-one hits ('Hot n Cold' and 'The One That Got Away' - both peaking at No. 3, while 'Waking Up In Vegas' peaked at No. 9). Her first ballad release, 'Thinking of You,' peaked at 29; however, it's still safe to say that Perry has had a consecutive string of top 40 Hot 100 hits (as the main artist) since her entry to the survey in Summer 2008.

I knew when it first came out, as a cut from Teenage Dream.. I knew it'd be a hit. Perfect timing to have it released, and I'm not surprised at the success.
Love this damn song! Katy knows her hits and you can't fault her.

Where are the misspellings? An article can not be considered for publishing by Billboard without them.
