Luuuuucky! Is the gameplay closer to melee or brawl?

Let me give you a little bit of background before I give my opinion:
I'm playing on a small 3DS. Love every single smash iteration with Melee being least favorite because of the paltry roster. The gameplay was pretty speedy and fun but I just preferred Brawl and that's all me and my friends played at parties. We loved taking goofy pictures and the newcomers were on point.
I would say the gameplay is right inbetween. Brawl felt slower and more approable than this game, this game definitely feels faster and I guess more fluid? Brawl was sort of chunky. It just feels like all your moves really link together. It's not as fast as Melee though.
The moment they announce Smash for 3DS I knew the controls would suffer. The layout is odd, no smash stick, small buttons, tiny screen, etc., etc...
I can proudly admit I was dead wrong. The controls feel sooo good! Your hands are cramped(at least on a small 3DS) but the button clicks work like a charm and it feels just like you're playing Smash on a console. Smash attacks are easy to pull off. One gripe with controls is grabbing/blocking. My hands aren't even that big but they still don't comfortably hold onto the system where I can reach those buttons easily. Not really a flaw in the game, more like the system. I never use grab/block though anyway so it's all good
I thought my tiny 3DS screens would be wayyy too small.. I was wrong. The game looks crisp and vibrant and you can easily see your character + items on the stage even when the camera gets pretty far away from you. On bigger stages this might be more of a problem(although I don't think 3DS has any 'big' stages) but it worked fine. To put it in perspective, when it zoomed pretty far out when people were stretching the screens about as far as it would go, the resolution and size of everyone was kinda like the Temple stage.
The 3D is awesome. Even on the menues it's very subtle but noticeable. The little hand cursor floats above the screen! And that cursor can move between the top and bottom screen, so you don't have to use the touch aspect of it at all.
Favorite characters were Villager and Pikachu. Mario and Link were boring, and Link felt kind of weird to play as. Megaman was a total dud. That is all personal preference though.
Any other questions?
