neither? This isn't on, like MTV Jamz or in the pages of Vibe. Like, Sam Cooke might not make it - but Usher and/or R. Kelly deserve to? LIKE REALLY.
If your gonna talk like that and be disrespectful like that, that shows me you don't respect real R&B for shame and of course Sam Cooke would deserve to make it. Still R&B artists have their right to be mentioned one of the greatest and yes Sam Cooke is one of them but the ones now shouldn't just be mentioned in MTV Jamz or Vibe especially if they are or were critically acclaimed
There was also Love In This Club remember Usher is one of the few artists to have a #1 single in 3 different decades has JT done that? I can tell you everything that Usher has done what is that gonna do to resolve this the question here has what has JT actually done to leave more of a permanent mark than Usher? Really I mean what has he done besides become big just because of his boy band? Usher took his relationship with Chili and exposed it to the whole world with 8701 and Confessions what has JT done that is really dramatic and monumental?
I don't care about chart statistics, dude. That's not what this list is based on at all. I'm sure Justin will get a #1 hit with his next album, but he wasn't even solo in the '90s so it's sort of silly of you to draw that comparison.
JT has left more of a permanent mark because he is the golden boy of the US music industry. He is huge and beloved by all women of all ages, plus some men too. His music garners critical acclaim and huge commercial success. You probably won't be convinced, and I understand. But it's completely obvious to me, someone who is pretty subjective in that I'm not a fan of either.

So, to you, Sam Cooke isn't real R&B - but usher is? I thought the most asinine thing I heard tonight was going to be that Christina stan (not Reeces!) babbling utter nonsense ...
Speaking of, how many soul/R&B greats will make it? I can tell you off the bat any female not named Aretha or Tina ...
Oh and if Beyonce's going to chart in the list, then Shakira, Britney, Christina all have an equal right to chart in the list because I don't see how it's ok for her to chart but the others not to. Only thing she has on the others is overexposure.
Other than that, definite locks:
The Supremes/Diana Ross
Sex Pistols
The Clash
Some awful **** like Phil Collins or Genesis.

LMAO I SEE THAT EDIT RAPISALIVE!
Al Green
Marvin Gaye
James Brown
Stevie Wonder
Otis Redding (maybe?)
Sam Cooke (maybe?)
I know one thing is, while those old grumpy men dislike contemporary R&B, they always find away to include the soul singers of the 60s and 70s.
They're both worthless to me, but JT is more of a superstar, and at a younger age.
You can't be serious in JT making the list before Usher. Maybe N*Sync, but Justin ain't doing it. Not with 8701 & My Way selling more than Justified. I'll give JT FS/LS.
JT isn't some heavyweight in Pop like Usher is in R&B.

Is he really the golden buy of the US Music industry? you sure about that? when it comes to music I haven't heard JT mentioned anymore only usher, michael jackson, prince entertainers who have longetivity and keep doing what they love to do. Usher's music hasn't garnered critical acclaim and huge commercial success? Usher isn't loved by women of all ages? The only time it didn't when he was trying to be "more adult" when he put out Here I Stand believe me if JT would have put out the same type of album it wouldn't have mattered it would have flopped as well household names can't always sell you know especially if the music is terrible. Usher has 9 #1 singles and an album that has went diamond with several others that went platinum and how many does JT have? I'm not convinced because I have the facts to back this unless you got a different definition of what impact is

Yep, The Clash is top 30. The Police too! Hopefully The Kinks will make it
Predictions for top ten: The Beatles, The Stones, and then - Aretha, MJ (ugh), The Who, Elvis, Madonna, U2 (my bold prediction), Led Zep and ...

I can't believe you just put Usher in the same sentence as Prince and Michael Jackson.
Honestly. I'm going to bed. It's 3AM and I'm not doing it.
I doubt Justin is making the list either, so I don't see the argument. Confessions was a sales monster, but I doubt it's some respected piece of art like say, Songs in the Key of Life. And Justin's music is just blah as a whole. They're about even for me.

I don't really expect much contemporary R&B entries. Which is why it wouldn't surprise me if Alicia Keys or Usher didn't make it. They'll probably use Beyoncé's bid as the ambassador for contemporary R&B acts of the 00s.

its because I wasn't finished I meant no disrespect to Sam Cooke I know he is one of Soul's pioneers because of his song A Change Is Gonna Come I know songs like that made an impact on the world and if we're talking about songs to make an impact on the world then neither has Usher or JT has done that. Michael Jackson did We Are The World and The Beatles wrote a song called All You Need Is Love during difficult times and Marvin Gaye during those difficult times wrote a song called Whats Goin On obviously. I guess if we're talking about songs by an artist that made an impact on this world JT nor Usher nor Beyonce deserve to make the list. Usher may be involved in the remake of We Are The World but obviously thats not enough because it needs to be orchestrated by the artist itself the way Michael, Marvin, Sam or The Beatles did it. In this no artist from this decade deserves to be on that list

You're losing it. You can't put Usher in the same group with MJ and Prince.

Bitch, please. Aaliyah, Brandy, & Monica's catalogue all step on Beyonce's quite easily. The thing is Beyonce was ALWAYS in the public eye. It's more the whole package of celebrity she has because otherwise her albums are patchy.
I can't believe you just put Usher in the same sentence as Prince and Michael Jackson.
Honestly. I'm going to bed. It's 3AM and I'm not doing it.
Why not? Usher is supposed to be an R&B legend by now and obviously is nobody been running longer on the R&B charts than he has and like Prince and Michael Jackson Usher is an impactful entertainer a very strong one this past decade. Usher has more #1s than Prince only has 4 less #1s than MJ. If you think about it Usher is the MJ of this era and JT is the prince because many people asked themselves earlier this decade who is better Usher or Justin Timberlake or after Justin Timberlake released Justified 2 years after 8701 did Justin Timberlake copy off of Usher? you need to understand the logic I'm coming from to understand this like MJ Usher had a #1 single in 3 different decades. Will Usher ever be as great as MJ? no Is Usher one of the greatest entertainers of our generation though? yes
You're losing it. You can't put Usher in the same group with MJ and Prince.
Give me one damn good reason why I should not. Is he more talented than them? No Is he more talented than Prince? of course not. As talented as MJ? of course not there'll never be another Michael Jackson. I'm just saying Usher is the Prince or Michael Jackson of our generation he just has similar consistency and longetiivity to them thats what I'm saying geez.
