You're so right, I mean the pop genre is a genre that kind of
demands strong visuals, I mean I think people tend to forget that 'Bad Romance' was the most watched music video of the world for a while. It literally made all the then current dominating artists step up their video game for a while and dictated music women (and also men to certain extent) visual style for some good years.
Of course, the music was killer and that's obviously an essential part of a smash but with "ARTPOP" if she wanted success she should have buried herself with strong visual influences that could have translated the strong music she was bringing into visuals that made the music explode. Let's not forget not all good music, including pop, is successful and with "Born this Way" having average visuals she should have stepped up her visual game a lot for "ARTPOP".
For example with 'G.U.Y.', not a bad video per se but its kind of "pinky" nature, bloated and not all greatly executed concept, it just didn't do much for the song. I mean that's a heavy dark electronic song, what was that with the housewives of Beverly Hills or the pool dancers? I mean no offense to them but if only she was called for American Horror Story before she could have grabbed some influences from the series to the music video.
And don't let me get started with flat out wasting the 'Do What U Want' masterpiece.
I'm glad she's focused on bringing it music wise for LG5, that's essential, but she should not overlook the visual aspect of her art, like at all.
